Current Sti v GB270
Apologies if this has been flogged to death but I'm interested in getting back into an Impreza and with the new ones out there are deals to be done on the old ones. I just wanted to know the advantages / disadvantages as on paper the GB270 is quicker and there seems to be a few about.

GB 270 is based on a WRX with goodies added. STi is bespoke Quicker.............hmmm don't know about that one. Total Impreza write up is not full of praise really.
STi 280 PS standard, or 320PS with PPP, GB270 is 270!No DCCD. Wagon Yes, Saloon .............no.

WRX with PPP is quicker to 60 because the STI box is shorter and you have to do another gear change.
If you want something thats a little more refined and easy to live with - get the WRX/GB270. If you want something thats going to constantly prod you to go quicker - get an STI.

Hi
I changed my 06 STI for a GB270 Wagon,in september, the wagon is a far more comfortable car and is just as quick around the twistys but with out the drama of the STI.
The short shift box in the 270 helps tighten things up and it pulls hard from 2500 revs tp 5500 revs where it runs out of puff, but for overtaking and fast road driving gear changes are less frequent.
The handling inspires more confidence IMO than the tramlining of the sti,and there is a tad more steering feel in the wagon,of all the newage stuff i have driven and i have driven most models it is the closest i have found to the handling of the old classics
Hope this helps.
