Just seen new STI at Autosports show..
and all I can say is the only chance Subaru have is if it starts winning in the WRC..!
From the pics I'd seen the STI looked quite promising, sadly, unlike the Hawkeye did at launch, it's a case of not looking better in the flesh..!
I can honestly say the only thing that impressed me was the solid clunk of the door shutting, very Germanic..
The lights we know about, but so many other things look cr@p. The wing mirrors look like they belong on a transit van, huge big square things. The 4 tail pipes look ok, but seem over kill, especially when you look at the group n car next to it with it's single 3" pipe. Underneath reveals the probable true reason, there's an extra great big silencer in there.
There's less leg room in the back, the boot is a joke, I actually thought it would be more practical being a hatch, but it so shallow and narrow..
Taking a look in the engine bay, I was curious about the pump like thing on the front n/s of engine, turns out it's a heater for the CATS, which IMHO says a lot about the car..!
Finally, I asked about the PPP figures and basically, they're hoping for 340, but it depends on the research PD do, as it could be 320 is as much as they'd risk. Certain amount of 'told you so' regarding the 400bhp myth..
Nearly everyone looking at this car said the same thing, "looks like everything else on the road..., lost what it was..., what a shame..!" These weren't even Subaru owners, just the general public.
Biggest laugh came at the expense of the big numpty asking the Subaru guy "if it's still ok to fit a FMIC...?"
I've been holding judgement until seeing in the flesh, unfortunately IMHO, it's the sad day we all feared..!

I have the totally opposite opinion to the above - the new STI looks really good; far more meaty and a lot more presence than the '08 WRX.
I'd go as far to say that I'd probably have one - in black it actually stands the chance of looking like a grown-up's car. Flared front wings with the rear vents have a touch of Cusco JGTC car about them; the interior is okay - but it seems to have retained the fisher-price steering wheel (but with buttons) that ever STI has had since the Blob (which I think is bloody ugly and always have).
While I wouldn't buy a new one, I won't make the mistake of buying any car new again - the make/model hasn't got anything to do with it; I would seriously consider having one as a second owner.
I had a reasonably long chat with the guy on the Mitsubishi stand about the Evo X, and other than being made to promise to take one for a test drive (I've been told it feels far less on edge than the Evo9 360 did.. which by his admission had the personality of a ADHD child); he told me that there had been more than a few people who didn't like the styling of that either.
- really enjoyed this years show, the only downer was that while we were grabbing a bite to eat in Chorley East services, some little chavvy ****s who left shortly after we went in their decided my car would look better with their milkshake/spit over the side of it.

I have to agree with Prasius. I thought the STi looked far better than I was expecting. The interior uses even cheaper plastics than my Blob, but the general looks and layout inside was good.
Yes the boot is shallow compared the the competition, but I'd rather have 4WD than a deep boot. My wife was impressed by the door closing thud(!) and said she'd be happy for us to own one.
I'm still undecided and also will wait a year or two and then look for a second hand bargain. Surprisingly, I prefered it to the Evo X (especially inside), which was certainly not what I was expecting. I think a grey one instead of the blue show car would look pretty good.

I am also impressed with the new STI. Spent a good hour on the stand yesterday and had a real good look at everything.
The boot is smaller than i expected and still not sure on the front grill but other than that i thought the car was a huge improvment over the Hawk in every area.
I also had a few minutes on the Evo stand and the new X was no where near as tasty as i had expected.
It's the STI for me without doubt

An by the way the sti is a exactly what i expected ....
Even if it wins rallies as the bugeye did, sales won't be good enough !
Waiting for the first facelift.
The co-called ppp will be around 15% above of the present power so expect 340bhp, as for the so-called 400 looks like a aftermarket mods yet again
If anyone can be bothered to buy one

Well, having seen it in the metal today ...it's one of those few cars that actually doesn't look any better than it's pictures ...it's so wrong on so many levels from the nose to the tail lights & wtf is going on with the rear arches? any comparisons with an Integralé are frankly laughable ... even a sunny/pulsar put's it to shame ...& as for the interior, oh dear ...i now know where all that super market strawberry punnet packaging goes when it gets recycled!!
I was going to say I only hope it drives a hell of lot better than it looks ...but that would mean all it has to do is drive better than the Cinquecento courtesy car that i once had the misfortune of driving! <shivers>

A few of us Essex lot went up on Friday. Got to say I was rather disappointed. Having spent a good few minutes walking around the car and taking it all, heres what I thought of it.
1) WRC blue is not a flattering colour.
2) If it was wearing a Ford/Mazda/etc,etc badge on the grill, it would have not come as a surprise. There are no issues owning one of the above makes, BUT the car has now turned into a bland-mobile.
3) The boot is way to small & shallow.
4) If you're over 6ft 2 you can forget about about finding a comfortable seating/driving position.
5) Change the rear lights, lower it and stick on bigger wheels, you may go some way to improving it
The above is all IMHO

While the boot may be, in some peoples opinions "small & shallow", I can guarantee that you can fit much more in it than the current car - the hatchback format is far more adaptable than any saloon; and thats not just opinion; thats a fact - I could fit far more in any of my hatchbacks, including my Saxo, than I can my Impreza.

I saw it today and i agree with all the negative comments agaisnt it. What a let down.
Everyone i heard around the stand was saying similar comments
So when are Subaru going to scrap this and get a facelift out? They must be thinking about it, if not now they will shortly when they put it on sale!

If you remove the parcel shelf, I agree, there would probably be more storage room. But, bang goes your security & privacy as all comers will be able to see what you've got.

Litchco one looked much better.
The TMIC is huge. So who's going to be the 1st to fit one to a ph1 classic?
