Cometh May I have had my Scooby 3 years (doesn't time fly) and I'm going to bite the bullet and upgrade to an MY02. Sadly the STI is just a little out of my reach for the mo (new roof required so I'm looking at a standard UK with possibly the PPP. I'm not looking for an import, although it is something I have considered.

My current dealer BCL has just come back with a whopping quote on a 36k 3 year contract of OTR £21,850, £3,000 deposit (which is what I will have) GFV of £9,238. (APR 11%) £399.10 per month !!!!

My current car was also 36k 3 year contract OTR £20,950, £3,000 deposit GFV £10,950. £320 per month.

Now the differnce to be financed is £2,612 which of 36 months is £72 per month, but given the fall in interest rates over the last 3 years I would have expected the quote to be more competetive.

Some of the ad's in the car mag's give PCP prices on 36k contracts at £277 / mth, 3 mths down INCLUDING VAT.

Clearly I have a few months of hunting, but I want some ideas now. Anyone picked up a car in the last few months and is prepared to give me details, on-line or by mail so I can direct my search a little more accurately...

I will be going back to them re discount and APR but I'm a bit of a woos when it comes to negotiating.

Thx

Dave

Cool

Think the difference in Gauranteed Future Values is interesting. 3 Years ago they thought a 3 year/36K scoob would be worth £10,950 and now they think it will only be worth £9238. Also just noticed that the new car is actually £900 more so that makes it even worse!

When I bought my car in April last year they gave me A Gauranteed Future Value of £9480. At the time I thought this was low but I would be surprised if it is even worth that much next time.

I hate to say this but maybe you would be better off getting a car that isn't as much of a depreciation disaster as an Impreza? If you got a car with a much better Gauranteed Future Value after 3 years you would be saving yourself a packet.

Dave, what are you getting as a trade-in on yours? My MY99 comes to the end of its PCP in July, but since I deliberately took a low GFV (of £8k), I'm tempted to pay that off instead of upgrading.

Mind you, I've driven a Honda Civic Type-R (spit!) but I liked it, practical and quite fun, but £16k and 7.2%APR, with cheaper running costs as well.... if the Scoob dealer starts offering me a deal like yours, I'm not even going to say 'No', I'll be out the door. End of last year MY01s were going for £17,995 from a dealer, and the only difference is the radio aerial, so haggle hard!

Question

Sjohnson,

What sort of a GFV are they offering for a 3 year/36 mile old Honda Civic Type R?

I am thinking of buying a new WRX. what sort of discount can you expect to get. (ie what would you expect to pay for Inport against UK?) Anyone know of any good dealers in the North of England??

An easy one here. Unless you are really worried that you need to use the future value and hand in your car, you should do a straight 5 year loan.

Put £3000 down and pay £378.00. Settle at 3 years and the settlement will be £8640. £600 less interest you have paid and an £20 less a month.

Pay £399 and the settlement will only be £7789.00.

PCP's are probably the worst way to finance a car. The dealer loves to sell you these, as they make BIG commision.

Don't forget, you can haggle hard over the APR, but only do this after you're happy with the GFV.
