does anyone know when low sulphur fuel was introduced to uk ??

Default does anyone know when low sulphur fuel was introduced to uk ??

going to buy a jag and the nikasil lined engine (up to 2000) is/was an issue due to sulphur content damaging liners...so, does anyone know when it was introduced to uk and was it manditory that all fuels had the sulphur content drastically reduced ? any info would be great ! the car i am looking at is a 99 xj8 car !

Ultra low sulphur fuels were introduced into the UK in 1999 for diesel and for petrol in 2001, well in advance of new EU standards for exhaust emissions designed to improve air quality by 2010.

I think BMWs were particularly vulnerable but this was largely kept under the carpet.
