Sunil, since I already hosted your picture, the least I can do is host piccies of your car as well

Oops, see that JF was there first.

Sunil, even if it were possible to do so from your own PC (and just put a link to //sunilpc/c/mypics/mycrappycar.jpg ): the picture would not be available to us if you just powered down your PC.

Your PC will not be visible from the internet in the best of cases, and just be glad it isn't.

The internet ultimately works on tcp/ip addresses (which is just a number like 195.166.79.208), and DNS servers know that scoobynet.co.uk is basically just that number. (DNS = Domain Name Servers, they "resolve" names to tcp/ip addresses).

When you register a domain name, you do just that: you "buy" a tcp/ip address, and update all the DNS servers in the world (actually, the UK) to know about that address.

This address will be fixed, but most of the time when you log on with your personal PC to get onto the internet, your ISP will "lease" you an address (not a fixed one). So the "internet" would not know where to look for the pics.

It could technically be possible to host pictures on scoobynet (even with cut & paste as you would like to). But pictures take up a *lot* more space that text, so SDB would need even more disk space, and bandwidth, and thus money. His wallet would go sideways that way But MSN provides a service like that BTW.

To give you an idea: your picture would be the equivalent of all the text of all posts in the muppet section

Hope this non-techno babble makes things a bit clearer.

But you might want to check if your account with your ISP (you do have one, don't you ) does not include say about 10 Mb of free webspace. Check their homepages if you want to find out.

HTH,

Theo

Cool

Thanks Theo, you know, i dont really care what the others say about you because i really dont think you're as stupid as they make out

I have emailed the 2 pics to ChefStead so lets hope he pulls his finger out (of Harj?) and hosts them so they can go on that thread.
