We are hitting 106.9 p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.10 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil

companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't

continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of >an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take
a ggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place
not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we
consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the
price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not
purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting
ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.


If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's
really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached
over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and
not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us
sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt,
all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the
next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes
sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE
RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e.
boycott BP and Esso "

They are quick to put the prices up but very slow to take them back down.. They say that they do this to cover there losses.... Bull!

A good way of getting the message across is Facebook or myspace I never use these garages anyway as there is no ESSO or BP in my town.

You may have a point though, once BP and Shell go out of business Tesco and Sainsbury will be able to supply the whole country from their refineries.

Exactly. Has everyone forgotten the queues of lorries outside of the fuel depots during the lorry blockades a few years ago? Funny how these depots had Shell or Esso written on them, but had tankers from just about every filling station name sat outside waiting to be filled up!

petrol has about 70% tax. Hitting the oil companies will do nothing. There is perhaps only at most 4p margin in the whole supply chain for fuel. If you want to see a fall in price, you need to hit the people that actually make it expensive. Thats the government.

You need to create a political movement to get them to change the taxes. That means taking the green activists on and winning. Time for a new plan me thinks

We are becoming incresingly desensitised to the rate petrol prices are rising.

I remember about 3-4 years ago buyin unleaded at shell in Newport south wales for 73p per litre.

the rise over the last 3 years or so has been over the top.

Sorry to state the obvious but this is a car forum which places us at the very front of any campaign, so we should be backing this all the way.

I already boycott certain companies because of their principles.

Even though the government take the majority of the cost of petrol in tax it is still worthwhile punishing the oil companies because they carry enough clout to raise hell with governments.

What I mean is that if certain companies are being overtly boycotted they may be able to pressure the government to lower fuel duty to a less diabolical level.

Or maybe not.

My bro works in the oil industry (currently lives in Texas - git) - I asked him to explain why oil prices are so crazy at the moment. He said there are several major factors; the war in Iraq and impending war in Iran are two, but apparently there was also a severe storm in the Gulf of Mexico recently which heavily damaged several big rigs. All of this happening at the same time results in the silly rise in price we've been noticing lately.

Not much we can do about it though, just have to wait and ride it out..

Don't get me wrong folks, I'm not saying 'buy your petrol from
tesco and save the world', it's just that I'm not planning on chaining
myself to the houses of parliment any time soon and figured this
course of action might have an impact ??
Personally hate being taken for a mug price wise. We live in a culture
now that teaches us to use the technology around us to find the better
deal and not settle for what is offered to us initially - if anyone's got
any suggestions thats better than this then step up. I generally hear of these
things, have a wee moan and think, 'ach it'll sort it's self out'. It certainly
doesn't look that way, think the poxy stuff's went up about four times in as many weeks around my town !!
If I/we are not prepared to try something to resolve the situation then everyone had just better stop complaining - simple as that.

Boycotting petrol companies wont make a difference. You still have to buy the fuel elsewhere so the govt. get the money regardless. Boycotting certain petrol companies is naive and makes hardly any difference.

If people are REALLY serious about protesting then stop using the car for a week. If everyone did this then the govt would get less money and would hit them (although that effectively means us lot) hard. If they don't tax fuel as much, they'll just tax something else more.

The best form of protest is the ballot box. Politicians want power, threaten that and they'll do something.

You are right, but sometimes it isn't enough. Civil action also speaks loudly.

Everyone remembers the last fuel protests purely because it was drastic action.

We need to be like that sometimes and now isn't a bad time.

I've said all along that unless we unite and stand up to tyranny, the half wits in power learn that we will just keep on taking it.

If we vote them out do you think an alternative bunch of half wits would listen?

They might they might not. I don't know.

i will boycott bp esso and shell i dont think it will help much. what we need is the road haulers association to block the refinaries and slow moving jams on motorway the same as 2000 to show the government that they need to lower the tax. Because as i have said before we dont just pay for the rise in our petrol the rise in diesel means everything in the shops goes up in price to, as the haulers try to pass on the rise.

Of course, some form of civillian action may help, boycotting selective petrol stations wont.

The best form would be to stop driving until tax is reduced. Problem is, people aren't THAT bothered about prices and will only do something about it as long as personally they won't have to make any sacrifices. The govt know this and know that people won't do what is necessary. People will whinge on forums but won't actually do anything effective about it.

thats why we need to act en masse. If the half wits in power threaten to take away hauliers licences if they protest then we need to get as many hauliers present as possible. It would be impractical to take away too many licences.

Ultimately goverment threats only work if they are heeded.

We should act anyway.

If I knew I had the full support of an entire movement I would sacrifice things I hold of value.

i am full supportive of the move and will do all i can to help. i have just emailed the prime minister to show my disgust at the petrol prices and the way they are threating the hauliers.

I think tho if there are hundreds of truckers they cant areest everyone or remove licences.
