They are internal model codes used by Subaru and they form the prefix of Japanese (domestic market) chassis numbers. GC8 and GF8 are Classic Saloon and Wagon prefixes. GDA and GDB are New Age Saloon WRX and STI prefixes.

No..... If you have a UK car then you have a 17 character VIN number. Only Japanese domestic market vehicles have a short chassis number that uses this prefix. If you look on the build plate it may well be that Subaru use the prefix as part of their internal model number, but the numbers will be different to the JDM applied model number (although probably in a similar format).
GDA = WRX Saloon
GDB = WRX STI Saloon
GGA = WRX 'Wagon
GGB = WRX STI 'Wagon (all New Age)
GDA = WRX Saloon
GDB = WRX STI Saloon
GGA = WRX 'Wagon
GGB = WRX STI 'Wagon (all New Age)
