Mine wasn't dear atall. If you have a local specialist in your area they will do a great job for you. I found one near me, all the same parts but none of the main dealer servicing charges (i.e £60 per hour) for my 30k service it came to £88.12.

30k 05 STI service is:
Oil, fuel and air filter change, oil change, replace spark plugs, front and rear diff oil change and all the usual check over - should sent you back roughly £350.
£88.12p now that is impressive .

The service book does'nt show half that diff oil etc maybe check it but not really change it, thats where all your money is going.As was explained to me bu the owner of this specialist garage in dealing with Subarus, the main dealers love nothing more than over servicing these cars, when there is really no need!.
A 20k service from main dealer was £180. So £350 (30k) sounds way way over the top. Typical main delare prices that is.

My best advice to you would be go to your main dealer and ask for a copy of the service sheet, then make your choices from there, diff oils should be changed but you pay your money and make your choices, myself i would have them changed, 350 sounds about right to me.

I just paid £580 for the 30,000 service on my 06 STi, BUT that included new pads/fitting for the front Brembos as well.
It would have been around £370 without the pads being done as well.

It was all coming down to price, quoting £££ and ££££ isn't answering Scooby-Stu2's question.
Finding a specialist in servcing and tuning subarus is by far the better way I believe, you seem to get more straight answers. Perhaps my main dealer isn't the best around.

Your MY05 should have DCCD unless it is a MY04 on a 05 Plate
One of the most important Jobs on any service of a 05sti with DCCD is the Gear oil change both rear Diff and the Drivers Controled Centre Diff.

Sorry mate for that you'd only get a 1K or 5K Intermediate Service or a 20k service if you do it yourself
Not much of a specialist if he doesn't know the Correct servicing shedule for Newage cars hope you car is not still in Warranty because if anything goes PoP you ain't be covered. IMHO

400 quid From Wilsons Subaru in Romford Essex. All the usual stuff done for a 30k service. My MY05 on the 04 plate is now out of warranty, but I wanted the proper subaru dealer stamps in the book, and besides Wilsons do an excellent job in my experience, you pays yer money and take your chances with a non main dealer I guess.
Just a matter of opinion if i was buying a used Subaru, newish, I want to see all dealer stamps in it, also my 30k, well its only done 22k, also included the 3rd year body wax service aswell, this was 120 quid, whole bill was 530 odd. dont forget your body wax servicing and that has to be done by a subaru authorised dealer to attain the rust warranty from Subaru, under EC laws whether that is legal as there are new laws as regards monopoly franchising on car servicing, not sure how it affects this sort of work though ?

Need to call a couple (at least 3) of local specialists as my 3yr service is due in a week or two. Who can I call locally (live in Berks)? I'm aware of Subaru4U + I could always treck up to Powerstation. What other good ones are there locally?

Bit blinkered mate as there are many very good specialists around who will probably do a better job than a bog standard Subaru dealer / garage. My preference would be to see a book stamped up by API, Powerstation etc.

I have to agree, Places like Powerstation, extreme Scoobies, Scoobyclinic, RC motorsport, API, TSL ...... etc all have a good reputation with scooby servicing and I would consider it as good if not better than a Dealer.
I actually like to se varied dealer stamps on a Service book

Agreed fellas with subaru enthusiasts like us....but quite a lot of people own a subaru who dont actually know or have ever heard of scoobynet!! They just say well the Impreza is a fast iconic car I'll have one please!!! I know at least 3 people who work with me in the city that have bought imprezas and they all look for official dealer FSH...I think to quote one 'im not going anywhere near some chavved up car' yeah yeah ok blinkered, like myself my car is modded by TSL so i must be a chav , but to a large proportion of the market authorised dealer FSH is very important and if you wish to sell a newer scoob I think an authorised dealer stamp bares more weight IMHO. (and yes I agree the likes of powerstation, TSL etc are very good if not better than most dealers )

According to my 05 service book plugs only need replacing at 75k..!!!
So make of that what you want, suffice to say I've changed them myself 3 times in 3 yrs..
Fact: dealer service is a rip off. £10+ for an oil filter is an excellent example. You can buy them from their parts dept. for £5.50 FFS..!
Flush, I thought that flushing the engine was a big no no and at very best unnecessary on a newish car..???
Every Subaru mechanic I know tells of horror stories, rip off prices/unnecessary work, some have even left because of it..!
IMHO, if you know which way round to hold a spanner, do things like fuel/air and oil change/filter yourself. Keep original receipts as part of the service record and save a fortune. Failing that, use an independent for the things you can't do yourself..!
For the record I change oil every 6 mths (~5k) along with required bolt ons (fuel filter/plugs etc), whilst things that require more involvement/specialist knowledge done by an independent. That way I know it's done properly and I'm not paying for work that could be potentially damaging to my car (Eg: main dealer YTS..)

UK and JDM(imported) schedules are only in 10k mile intervals (although does suggest 5K intermediate service for PPP'd DCCD versions)
DCCD and Rear Diff and spark plugs are definately replaced on the STi every 10k miles for UK
Yep prices I used was top price even if you take 50% off spares and £60 per hour you are still looking at 30k mile service £230-280 for a STi with DCCD and £200-220 for a STi non DCCD or WRX so £88.00p is nowhere near
IMHO
I have an Import so no worries about Warranty so could do it all myself but don't. i do mine every 5K miles and as per service shedule.

I'm still going to put my trust in a Subaru specialist for servicing my car. You are forgetting that they don't charge no where near as much for the labour, I have saved £150 min on that alone. Which is my point!.

The parts alone for a 30k service are £200 and £160 dealer (DCCD dependant) so £100-80 !! if bought by yourself/trade etc. so your £88 inc labour is a tad out, maybe yout quoting a 10K service?
