Default My Bad Experience i had with Monty's of Sheffield Subaru Dealer

I have posted this on sidc as well just to make people aware of the bad experience i had.

Place where i bought my car Subaru main dealer Montys of Sheffield.

Bought my 2004 sti type UK from them about a month ago and i must say the worst customer care ever

First of all when i took the car for a test drive before i bought the car i noticed a rattling noise from the rear they said they would have this sorted ready for when i picked up the car. I even phoned a week before picking the car up they said yes the rattling had been fixed.

Did they fix it no , driving home noticed the noise still rattling.

Second they had just washed the car when i first looked at it before buying it and when i opened the boot their was water in the boot they said they would fix this before i picked it up.

Anyway they said they had tested it and it was fine no water coming all fixed

I got home and the day after washed the car poured water over the boot the water was pouring though a nut which holds the spoiler which was blatantly coming through had to tighten it my self.

Third they said they would clean the engine bay did they no , although they did offer to do it on the day i collected the car.

Fourth they said the car had 2 previous owners and when i got the log book it said 3

Also when collecting the car i was made to wait approx 1 and a half hours while they tried to sort out the tax disc.

last of all on Subaru's behalf only receive a letter after a month explaining that their may be short delay on my warranty and assistance cover handbook , every other new or used car that i have bought they give it you on the day all i got was a receipt

I did ring montys and they just waffled on about how sorry they were but at the end of day why say you have done something when you haven't.

I would have just the car back but I'm happy to keep it and get the car sorted at my local Subaru dealer as monty is 100 miles away from me

I feel that this is not in anyway a slat-ting slagging thing against montys I'm just telling you what happened when i bought my Subaru from there.

very suprised mate. ive not bought a car from montys, but ive bought several parts from them for my uk classic scoob, and the parts service has been superb. cheap delivery, and they usually round the order off to the nearest pound for you too, which i dont mind.

any one elses opinions conflict mine?

We've all had our woes with garages.

I bought my Type R from a specilist dealer in Wiltshire. I drove 90 miles to view/test drive the car. All was well, just a few minor points which were to be done: 1) the handbrake cable needed tightening. 2) there was a blemish on the roof due to bird sh*t, which was to be polished out 3)fthey were to fit my CD player and Bluetooth phone kit.

When I collect the car they had not tightened the handbrake cable, they had (incorrectly) fitted the CD player, they broke the Bluetooth car kit*, they repainted the roof - because (in their words) I'm a fussy bu**er and wouldn't have been happy with the mark on the roof - they had in fact burnt through the paint so had to repaint it, but they had overspray on the window seals etc.

I compalined about the roof when I found out at home and got an "oh well....." reply

I later found out they had bu**ered up my stereo and they said that it was a favour to me as they are not electrical experts WTF. Not rocket science is it.

Don't buy from an IMPORTspecialist SHOP in Wiltshire - they are a bunch of cowboys.

* they cut the microphone cable and used one (yes one) crimp to join the wire together - 2 wires on a mic +ve and -ve and they used one crimp. No wonder it didn't work

Usually I'd say IMHO here, but I'm not going to because it's all factual.

If none of the pre-agreed work wasnt done, i would have left the car there until all the faults had been rectified by the dealer.

Re-read and look at the CAPS

Yes, you're right they weren't wearing their six-shooters that day. Everything else is true.

I bought my 2002 WRX Wagon from there about 2 months ago and found them very helpful. I would definitely recommend them based on my experience.

I agree, why drive a car away when they have not done what you asked? You should tell them that you are not happy and arrange for them to provide you with a replacement car until you can go back and pick it up again.

Time scales ? Collecting the car say after work and as the garage is closing - not always time to check what they have said they have done !

Hope you get it sorted ScoobyDavid

Ordered a very small obsure rear brake part from them over the phone, as iy wasn't a stock item. They said it would be with them the next day.

It arrived to ME first post two days later, no charge for postage.

I'd recommend their parts dept.

david

Myself and dozens of our local guys have bought cars/parts/service/repairs etc from montys in sheffield, basically if we have had any issues with the dealer,we would take it up with them personally and give the said dealer/specialist every chance to resolve the situation, not head for the nearest online forum to start slating and bad mouthing them, whoever they may be!

the rattle you discribe,where/what area is it coming from,is it just a dash/loose trim rattle,or is it the imfamous rear strut or rear window rattle ??

also, the leaky boot spoiler/bolt,can it not be sorted via simply useing a little silicone and a socket set ?

Im sorry, but i have dealt with montys hundreds of times over the past few years, and never had any issue's at all, service work carried out quickly and very competetively, the parts department is top draw, and danny/john in sales have always given 110% to answer an issues/queries i have

so,you may have felt the need to openly comment on here regarding your lack of approval with montys sheffield, but do people post every time they recieve great service ?????? nope, its just the bad things we remember, please do try and resolve the issue face to face with said dealer,as i consider the guys down there to be "friends" rather then just another bunch of "targets and figures" and have the upmost respect for there aproach

one of our local members had a problem with a car he bought,he settled it in person, and kept it professional, the problem was resolved.......end of problem!

just my two peneth guys,i cannot see any bonus or advantage with publically slateing a car dealership on here when it simply a matter of a couple of small issues that need resolving, also the car is used,i could understand your gripe with a leaky boot,or rattle if you had taken delivery of a brand spanker, but 3/4 years of use,and it has a dodgy washer and a dirty engine

please, please speak to them direct and leave the mud slinging to the kids buddy

cheers marcus

I do understand what you are saying. I was just telling you of my experiemce with them which i would say was pretty poor and yes the things are petty. I have bought 3 used cars over the years from main dealers and each time ive been made to feel special everytime and i must say this was the worst experience i had ever had. I would have just took the car back but i live in birmingham and bought the car from sheffied. I Known its bad me slatting them but if some tells you work is going to be carried out on the car you are buying you trust them , i even rang up a week before collecting the car and they asured me the work had been carried out and the car was all ready.

As for the noise at the back looks like it is a rear stut so i will taking it in to subaru next week my local branch.

ditto what ethanrob said. i remember a thread a few months ago when jase @ scoobybits was getting slated over the delivery of something or another. turned into a slating match, and didnt do either party any good...

couldnt a couple of inquisitive phonecalls about your displeasure been enough. general feeling here is montys are bloody good...

so every time you have satisfactory/good/excellent dealings with montys or anyone esle for that matter, are you gonna say the same thing... ie "people have the right to know my service was satisfactory/good/excellent"

somehow i think not personally, but i hope youve sorted it out anywho.

I'm still unsure if ScoobyDavid did try and resolve his problems with Montys before posting, but however good or bad Monty's are (or any other reputable dealer is), they all have off days !
While its not the best to turn it into a public slagging match which I dont feel ScoobyDavid is, - a post like this can be used as good for Montys ( re the publicity of people comming out saying they are great etc) and as a reminder to Montys that they are as only good as the last service they offered !

Just my few pence worth !

This doesn't surprise me at all, I've never used Montys, but sums up what I had time and again from the Colchester Subaru dealer. You would pretty much know that if you said there was a problem when you took it in for a service, they wouldn't look at it, so when you picked it up it was still the same. And by then, it's 5 O'clock and you don't want to either hang around for an hour or book it in for another day, so you just say s*d it and drive off with the same problem as you had in the morning.

That's why I never use Subaru dealers now, Special Scoobies in Colchester every time now.

I did ring them and they did say sorry but I'm to a far away nearly 100 miles to take it back. So I'm taking it to my local dealer as its under warrantie looks like the knocking could be the rear strut or rear passenger side

I bought my first Impreza (MY97) from a dealer in Basingstoke. When I got it home, the first cold morning and the clutch was juddering horrendously, fairly common on that model, but only noticable when cold. I took it to the dealer in Colchester and they said the clutch was on it's last legs. I rung the dealer in Basingstoke and they said they would have to fix it there, and it couldn't be fixed in Colchester, even though it was still under Subaru warranty. So I had to make a 200 mile round trip for a new clutch and when they did it they made out the clutch was fine and generally made me feel bad for wasting their time, even though the clutch was shot.

We are very protective of suppliers on here... If you have a good experience post about it, if you have a bad one post about it too. Helps people on the forum make an informed decision. If the supplier wants to respond then great, it is a public forum after all.

If they are a good supplier there will be more good than bad posts or vice versa.

I do agree with not posting during the dispute, but if it has ended or you aren't getting anywhere then post!

Must say I've always found Webbers Subaru in Basingstoke really helpful - but I've only ever used their parts dept- quick postage etc, generally v. good, but can't speak for having bought a car from them.

Can't say I blame David for posting his experience and it's not as if he is slagging them off..... it's not really the point if it's "just a trim rattle" or "can it not be sorted via simply using a little silicone and a socket set?" yes these things can be easily fixed yourself but the fact of the matter is he was told they will be fixed, then that they were fixed, only to find out they hadn't been.
Not what you really want when you go to pick up your new car expecting everything to be sorted, only to find out thats not the case!
