Scooby 1/4 miles and 1/8 miles
Hi all
Went to a 1/8 mile event a couple of weeks ago and was quite impressed with the scoobs all round. Admittedly, I am not a Scooby owner (2wd cos - dont hold that against me!)
I couldnt get over how well the Scoobies performed over the 1/8th. Raced what appeared to be a fairly std car which acheived about an 8.5sec.
Now the question is this - my cos will get to the 1/8th in about 8.6 odd with a trap speed of around 88mph. The scoob that pipped me managed it with a trap speed of around 82odd (thus demonstrating dominance off the line).
Sooooo - how much difference is there between the various models over this distance in broadly std terms? Would an STiV for example be signficantly quicker than the WRX?
All very frustrating for us poor 2wd ford owners (even with 400odd bhp!)
Thanks in advance!

Have you seen the Jet car at Elvington. He does 1/8 in about 4 secs with a terminal speed of 186mph, and thats with no wheels driven.
Realistically I thing the shorter the measured distance the less it will show up power differences between cars. I'd expect Classics to generally look better as they're much lighter. Launch technique will also have a major influence, from my point of view I can't bring myself to brutally dump the clutch.

Ref the launch technique, I have a friend with an STi V who would wholeheartedly agree with you! He reckons he gets a few before lunching something expensive.
It was an interesting day really - the cos was a little out of her depth to be honest at that distance.
The most memorable car there was this huge great big american convertible that was munching everything! Was almost surreal as it must have weighed the same as a small block of flats!
The WRX that I was up against was of the early gen (pre bug-eyes) I guess about 1997-8?

Yeah, with that sort of power in a Cosworth, you'd catch up and overtake most standard Imprezas over 1/4 mile, but I guess at an 1/8 you have trouble making up the advantage the the AWD launches and light-weight the classic Imprezas have. I think the time that you've quoted is about right for a standard STi launched hard, with the 60ft marker coming up in around 2 secs. All fun and games though, sounds like it was a fun day!!

Great fun all round - a good bunch of people as well which always helps!
To add - I would agree with your summation - absolutely no advantage in power for me over that distance! Best I could do really was keep them honest.
Quite a lot of skylines there on the day some of which seemed pretty good. One was running around the 7.8 sec time!!!! That seemed pretty quick to me!

Think Andy`s time is more an exception than the norm! Only car i`ve ever watched dispatch a 700bhp+ EVO and make it look easy! Awesome thing to wathc.
I`ve done a 8.3@84 as my best ever 1/8th.

So from what I can gather, I am going to need to find a longer drag day to compete with you guys! I am waaaay off the 1/8th mile pace of a pretty standard Scoobie, which is pretty impressive to be fair!
