hi , can anyone tell me what the plastic intake is that goes from the front of the engine into the inner wing and can it be removed without problems.
i have ordred a k&n kit that takes air from the fog light cover throgh the inner wing and into a filter but the thing thats already there is in the way.
cheers.

I think you'll find that that is the standard airbox intake.

Yep, it goes in the wing at the top, does a quick U-Bend then out again into the box, I should know as I spent weeks trying to remove the 'U' part so I could fit my silver indicator bulbs, then found there was an easier way!!

Truth is that a decent panel filter will be better than the K&N anyway the intakes on the new age STI are good for over 400bhp

Ditto, I've tried various 'adaptions' to the std intake and I've now settled back to virtually standard with a decent panel.

The only other thing I've done is change the black plastic corrugated 's' pipe between MAF tube and turbo intake pipe with a smooth Samco equivalent. Also try and insulate the airbox and ram scoop as much as possible, especially near header tank/hoses..

thanks for the replies.sometimes you do`nt realise how complicated these things are till you start them. just replaced most of the hoses for silicone ones, what a nightmare.
