Default Going to buy a V5

Hi have been to MIR Motors again to look at a Black STI V5 Very Impressed with it had service history bodywork in great nick. Standard no mods except exhaust.

Took me out on a test drive and happy with it. Only one thing which worry's me. Its got 52000 miles on (which is why it's a bit more expensive) and on the odometer it's 55000 I thought all Imports recorded in KM.

It's also got a TV, Sat Nav cd player double din things (It's in Japanese). I can't remove the head so Should I replace it with one which I can.

So Next week I could be a Scooby owner

I'll be the first to say it - check that it's been remapped for UK fuel as the STi V's can suffer from engine problems without this.

I used to own one - awesome cars!

Mine has been done on my MY04 STi V-Limited. Now reads MPH rather than KPH and the milage was adjusted to suit.

Would I have to remap it to run on the Tesco super unleaded or v-power. I'm going to ask them if they will change timing belt aswell.

Map it for whatever fuel you'll use the most. Either of above will be fine with my preference being Tesco as it's cheaper! Good call on timing belt; every 3 yrs I think?

I might be wrong and Im sure someone will tell you but if it is standard you shouldnt need it re-mapping. You could have the ecu reset and run it on tescos unleaded... I might be wrong and if I am someone will say.

Make sure you DO get the timing belt done if it is near 50k miles

GIAS.

The Ver V's have a certain "reputation" so it's wise to remap them. I didn't (wasn't that well known an issue back then) & had problems with mine ... £3k rebuild!

The late model STIs (classic) run fairly aggressive maps as standard, couple this with UK fuel and a bit of welly and trouble is inevitable.

So to be on safe side I will ask them if it's been remapped and if not I will get it done. How much am I looking at to get this done. As I might use it to try and get price down.

£500 ish the first map as you pay for the mappers time + the licence. 2nd time & beyond is just mappers time so £200-300 ish.

TX.

PS

This is great! Feel like I know you already KingTiger

is v6 the same problems?

Looking at importing a v5 or v6 so I can be sure it gets mapped straight away.

Head a lot of v5s seem to let go about 60K miles and most of the car I am looking at are about that mileage - However if it is a fresh import does the same danger present itself or shoud it be ok with an immediate remap?

that reputation is justified, same engine as the p1 and how many of them have gone pop,for the record mine is being rebuilt atm as well, but for the money i dont think you can have much more fun, when working it is the best car ive ever owned
