Question Newbeee help. Advice on buying.

Hi All

I am thinking about moving from my Alfa 156 to a the STI estate, probably the 2003, the year is dictated by funds available. About 10-12K.

I need the estate to fit in with practicle needs and the STI because I still want to have fun!!

So...

What are your thoughts? What issues problems should I be aware of. What should I look for when buying? Smoking, CAM belts, MAF's, exhaust, suspension, engine issues etc etc. Are there give away signs of it being ragged?

Finally what varients are out there? Such as better suspension packages for example.

Thanks in advance.

The first thing i would look for is a full service history (preferably done by a Subaru dealer/specialist)

MAF's were only a problem on the cars made around 1998/2000

Suspension is pretty solid on Subarus so no need to worry there

Apart from this just check for the usual signs that something is wrong eg. exhaust smoking at tickover, visible oil leaks etc

Good luck with the purchase

You need an immaculate low mileage WRX PPP under warranty until April 08, new alloys (replaced under warranty), new tyres and just serviced - 11k

Subaru : Subaru Impreza WRX PPP

Mikeruss, welcome to snet

You may be searching in vain as subaru didn't make blobeye(MY03-05) STI estates. The last STI estate was the bugeye shape and these were not sold by UK dealers. This makes them mighty rare over here (I was looking for one a while back).
I would suggest you find a WRX wagon with the prodrive performance pack. Had one of these previously and it made a great load lugger/sleeper. Not many members of the general public know what one of these can do
For 10-12K you should be able to pick up a mint car with full service history (and possibly the tail end of a warranty) so I would not worry about mechanical issues.
Official variants are limited to the prodrive parts (you can find it all on the subaru website) but once you're outside warranty you'll get much more for your money by going to any of the specialist tuners.
Happy shopping,
monkey.
