Twin Scroll Turbo..Swap for Standard?
Hi All,
Is it possible to change a standard STI newage Turbo to a Twin Scroll Turbo?
Would you say it is worth it? Would it be as good as having PPP fitted?
Cheers

Halfway mod is a VF34 roller bearing turbo, spools up quicker, but doesn't need all the expensive replacement plumbing. But will only get you towards 360 bhp. But at a reasonable price, just missed one at £400 on here

So its not a simple swap? And expensive! When me warranty has run out I may get it done.
How much would the complete upgrade cost, and how much extra hp.. I could start saving now!!

Your turbo what is on the car is capable of around 350bhp which is about the same as a vf36/37 twin scroll. I would just go for a bigger single scroll like a md321h or similar

Ok, I have to ask, but what is the twin scroll part of a twin scroll turbo?
Are there two impellers on the exhaust side, with one on the inlet? What is the big deal about the plumbing to get all this to work? I don't get how this works to actually give an advantage to response. Anyone have something simple I could read up on?

That is one of the worst turbo's to brag about twin scroll!! I considered that turbo for my car but was steered well clear of it and I'm well happy

I have done this converstion from VF35 to VF37. The VF34 is a good single scroll but not that common second hand. The VF37 has the top end of the VF34 and the spool of the VF35 so unless you have a built engine like Steve then stick to a sub 400bhp turbo
You will need a 2.5 sump, oil pick up, dipstick, equal length headers (which are the best OE that you can get), up pipe and down pipe to match.
All is detailed on my project thread in projects!

To keep it real "Gussy" we don't all have unlimited budgets, "we" need a budget solution.... Yes my credit card does have a £10k limit, do I want to fill it ? NO !
VF 34 + Headers + re-map could give 360 bhp and better spool-up for a sensible amount of money.
Dunx
P.S. Wouldn't mind an AET GT30R plus all the bits to get 450 bhp tho'

It looks the nuts in the advert (strangely enough).

Twin scrolls have there place and at the power level <400bhp a twin scroll is better than a single scroll on a 2ltr imo.
I have been down the modification route for twin scroll stuff (heavily documented here https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...roduction.html
Admittedly I have now gone down the single scroll route, but then my engine has been totally changed (as well as most of the anxcilliaries), so not really like for like.
As a road car up to 400bhp (with everything else matched to the twin scroll) they are extremely quick. That configuration (at 370bhp in a NEWAGE) won last years handling at ScoobyLive, posted 12.5s 1/4's and came forth in class in the 2006 Tuner GP. Oh.... and never missed a single beat all season.
Dunx,
Why bother with a GT30R for 450bhp????
I have an AET standard position "drop in" GT30 (no need to change anything for a car that already has the single scroll up and downpipe). It gives me over 500+ of each at a peak boost of 1.7bar.... on pump fuel! Not many doing that on drop in turbo's, pump fuel and conservative boost (albeit on a fully built 2.5L engine).
Regards,
Shaun.

Dunx I dont have an unlimited budget (I wish I had) On my last impreza it just became a money pit adding extra's all the time(chasing figures) then taking them off and changing them, this way round it was a one off with a proven conversion which suited me I dont need to change it now.
