Debris from container Lorry
I was unfortunate enough to follow a container lorry onto the M18 this afternoon (J3 West Bound), as the lorry picked up speed, several rocks fell off the top, one bounced on my bonnet and roof, leaving 3 scratch marks
I noted the details of the lorry and phoned the company responsible when I got back to work, there reply was tough we cant check the top of containers.... and we get these allegations all the time (basically called me a liar) to which I replied, perhaps you have a problem them.
He says what do you want us to do give the drivers a trampoline, and puts the phone down.
What should I do?, it will prolly cause me £250 to sort it, not too bothered but its the principle of the matter!!!

see if you can find an interested policeman. It is an offence to have an unsecured load. If you know the time and exact location of the event, its most probably on some camera somewhere.
A nice detection and cleanup for the police if they are needing to make up some points this month.

Same happened to a work mate, the jack handle fell off the trailer and bounced all over his car dents everywhere.
He pursued them for full costs and won, you cant let them off.
Oh his was on the 180 too, what a coincidence

This sort of thing is incresingly common IMO.
Best get on to it so that they take more care in future.
I am sure you will get satisfaction, but you will have to be prepared to push it as they will obviously try to fob you off.
Perseverance will be the key.

3o years ago I saw a large valve fall off an oil tank on the back of a truck coming towards me. It bounced once in the cente of the road and then took the woman driver's head clean off in the car in front and splattered it all over her baby on the back seat. No laminated screens in those days you see.
So report it and within the 24 hour deadline too.

Ring them up and threaten to complain to the commisioner; thatll change their attitude, especially if the vehicle had recently left their operating centre.

I work for a company that hires out containers units and cabins. We have our own drivers who transport these units up and down the country. I have a good knowledge of the regs associated. I can confidently say that it IS the drivers responsibility to check the roof for loose objects before he moves off. Trampolines are not needed, we find that a simple fold up ladder suffices.
