It's very often easier to pop into ATS or Kwik Fit and let them do it. A full synthetic oil change is only around £30 and you don't have to get dirty

4.5 litres inc filter. I use Motul 300V 5W-40, this is not a recommendation - just what I use. Remember to prefill filter and turn engine on starter (remove SBF5 from engine bay fuse box to disable fuel pump, check it won't fire before you drop the old oil out) until oil light goes out.

From complete empty, i'd guess about 1200litres unless you have a wagon.

I very much doubt quik fit or ATS would prime the system before starting or even fill the filter first. If you're not going to do it yourself let subaru or a specialist do it.

Why on earth do you need to pay Subaru prices for an oil change?? Using the power of speach i would tell the person changing the oil to make sure they fill my oil filter before they started it, easy

And to crank it before starting it.

Mr Kwickfit - "So this dip**** with the impreza tells me to fill his oil filter before starting it, WOT-EVA"

Wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw the building.

Sorry if I confused you, didn't mean to. When you drain the oil out of any car and refill it the oil system isn't full of oil anymore so when you start it the bearings are momentarily starved of oil. Most cars just rattle a bit until the oil flows and then all is OK. Scoobs are a bit sensitive to this situation and it is possible to damage the bearings.

1. To help protect against this you can fill the oil filter with oil before you screw it on so the pump doesn't have to fill it before any oil goes to the bearings. Just stand it on the bench and fill with oil, wait 10 mins for air to escape and then top up before screwing on engine.

2. You don't want the engine turning quickly while the bearings are starved so just remove SBF5 from the fuse box and it won't run and only turn over slowly on the starter motor thus giving your engine the best chance before the system is up to pressure.

Hope this doesn't confuse you worse than before,

Cheers, Diccy.
