Hi, my first post here

I currently own a Nissan 350Z and am looking at an Impreza as a replacement.

I quite like the hawkeye or a low enough mileage blobeye.

Im just wondering if anyone could tell me what the running costs are like, aswell as servicing intervals and costs.

Im used to avergaing 18mpg out of my Z so Petrol isnt too much of a factor but it would be nice to hear how other people get on with fuel, with regards to how many times they would fill up and cost etc.

I do mainly town driving.

work on av 20 mpg service every 10,000 miles or 12 mths and you should be safe. Services are not too bad if it's just a normal one

Welcome to Scoobynet. I've got a 54 plate STI (blobeye) with PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) which bumps the BHP up to approx 305 and similar levels of torque and I get approx 160 - 280 miles to a tank of petrol (driving dependant ). STI's don't have to be run on super unleaded but most do, however ones with PPP always should have super - Shell V-Power is the best. The fuel tank isn't massive and usually cost about Ł45 to fill.

Servicing intervals are as already stated but its good to give them an oil change every 5,000 miles. I've had scoobs for over 5 years now and there is very little that goes wrong with them (unless your unlucky). I'm guessing the running costs will be roughly the same as what your used to with the 350Z.

A good chat and a long test drive from a reputable dealer should give you a better idea.

Hello. I did the same as you. Sold my 04 350Z GT and bought an 06 STi Hawkeye.

Looks and build quality (interior) wise the 350z leaves the scoob standing, but that's about it... I find the Impreza a much better all rounder. It's easier to drive (in all weathers), is quicker and more practical. I've customized my Impreza slightly, something I never dreamed of doing with the Z due to cost.

Running costs are about the same, except the insurance on the Scoob is slightly higher due to it being a group 20 as opposed to 18.

I loved my 350Z and if I could run both cars I would have it back, but I would keep the scoob over it any day.

A work mate of mine has the Datsun and even though it is a cracking car the luggage capacity is 'somewhat less' than practical. Chalk and cheese comparing the two really.

i have a type r and the mrs has a 350 z and the scoob costs more to run

- Service every 6m for mine (modded).
- Get good fuel econ, with about 275 miles average from 50L.
(Have got it down to 10 miles for 1/4 of a tank).
- Ł50 to fill up on VPower
- Ł650 insurance
- Tyres seem to be lasting well (12m now and still 5mm on rear 4mm front)

I had a scoob then went for a 350z, good cars and better built inside, was quite fun sometimes going round bends quite quick, luggage room was poor though even for a 2 seater IMO.

Missed the safeness of a Scoob though and got me a Spec C, totally different car and would blow the 350z into the weeds IMO.

Running costs are practically the same although the scoob's service history are shorter, i dont do that many miles so i dont worry about it to much.

Have noticed one thing though, got loads of admiring glances from people in the 350z, in the scoob its mostly tutting under their breath,lol and i dont drive like a mentallist either.

If i could pick between them it would br the Subaru every time, go ahead buy one you will not regret it mate.

Wolfie - 160 - 280 miles to a tank thats a big gap, can driving the car hard really affect the fuel consumption that much?

Farmerwrx - If you dont mind me asking, how much more is the scoob per month to run?

I test drove a blobeye WRX STI type uk before buying the Z, but it was the hsortest test drive ever, just down the road and back so sort of put me off buying one at the time.

Think i'll book another test drive.

I average around 18 mpg, costs me Ł65 - 70 to fill up and get around 270 to a tank so there isnt much difference.

I've got a 2007 STi, test drove a 350Z before buying my scoob about a month and a half ago, personally the choice was easy for me.

I know what people mean about the interior of the 350 compared to the Scoob but thats not what the scoob is about, its all about the driving!

Fuel consumption wise I fill up for about Ł50 and get 220 miles to the tank and thats with mixed driving. Although my first tank got me to 150 and then the light came on, if you hammer it you can actually see the fuel gauge go down as you drive, however, this is again not a point to consider when buying a Scoob.

In general though they aren't as bad as most people make out when running costs are concerned, when I was looking at the 350 and my STi in massive depth with regards to running costs all round, the difference between the two wasn't that much, Scoob being a little bit more on the costly side.

Get it done mate, you won't regret it.

All I'd say is that if your budget allows you to buy a Hawkeye STi then go as new as possible I wouldn't consider any other previous model if you can afford to go almost new, you will have the last of the great Scoobs now that the new BMW 1 Series/Proton thing calling itself an Impreza has just come out.

I find my Spec C is about the same to run, same fuel consumption(smaller tank in Spec C)
My insurance is cheaper on the Spec C as i went to a specialist called kieth Michaels,Gary Moulson(moley WRX) on here did me a good deal,(check insurance section).
350z Was about Ł230 a service once a year, subaru is about the same(depending on service and who does it) maybe add another 100 a year for oil change etc.
Both in the same car tax bracket for cars registered before Mar 06 IIRC.

I suppose a little extra a month couldnt hurt.
The reason im wary of the costs is the fact that im moving house so dont want something thats going to be ALOT more expensive than the 350Z.

I'll book another test drive and go from there.

My nearest Subaru dealer is in Slough - Burnham area I think it may be SGT, but thats off the top of my head.

SGT in Taplow is a good dealer, but I've heard that servicing is pricey. Be worth finding out their hourly labour rates. Otherwise, to keep cost down, you could use Power Engineering in Uxbridge or Subaru4U (or something like that) in Newbury. I've heard both recommended before.

Why use a stealer? Get a private one (from here perhaps), save yourself a few Łk. As you're buying nearly new it'll still be under Subarus warranty.

Mark, Power Engineering is just up the road from me, but unfortunately the house that im moving to is in Whiteley (Hampshire).

So if anyone knows of a good place for servicing down there it would be greatly appreciated.

TX - I dont intend to buy from a dealer, just going there for a test drive.
