Default Car filling with steam!!

Hello All,

Does anyone know what can be making my car fill with steam?? It does not happen when blower is on cold, only hot. I assume it may be the heater matrix, but not sure. Engine temp stays at normal and I can't see any leaks or bursts anywhere.

If it is the matrix, what's the best way of accessing and repairing it??

Any help sure is appreciated!!

Thanks,

DrSmith.

sounds like the heater matrix as you have suggested leaking when under pressure. Im not sure of how much of a job it is to get at, try a search on here should find some information on it. I once had the same problem on an old rover 800 and it was a dashboard out job, not nice!

When you say it filling with steam, do you mean that the windows are misting up all the time?
Was told years ago that this is a common problem because of the sh*t seals around the frameless doors.
If so then try turning your recycled air off.

Surely if the matrix has gone then you will be losing coolant ?

I may have read on here recently about pollen filters clogging up causing windscreens to mist up....but then again was that regarding Imprezas

If its a classic and you are not loosing coolant, check the spare wheel well, make sure its not full of water very common for the rear light seals to leak the damp can cause the cabin to steam up pretty bad.

The heater matrix has always got coolant flowing through it weather the fans are set to hot or cold, but when it is warming the cabin any water will condensate.

if it is the matrix try putting some radiator seal in your water system as you might for a radiator leak.

After all the matrix is just a reverse radiator using hot water to heat cold air rather than cold air to cool hot water

I had the same in an old nova sri and had it for years after and it never leaked again.

Thanks for relpies!

No its not normal condensation but steam blasting in the air ducts when blower is set to warm or hot. Cabin fills with steam not just windows steaming up. I think I'll give the radiator leak fix a go first to see - saves taking out dash - fingers crossed!!

Thanx again!
