JDM Classic WRX vs JDM Classic STI
Whats the differences between the two on classic models
i know the STI puts out about 280bhp
but we never got the WRX over here, just the Uk Turbo. Most people seem to import the STI as the full fat, so you dont see many
looking at adverts there are a couple of Classic WRX imports on sale, whats the difference between that and the STI ?

All WRX's from 97 (V3-V6) onwards are stated as having 280 bhp same as the STi's just less torque.
The sti has forged pistons, better valve train for higher redline, better cams, different turbo and ecu is more aggressively mapped.

Depending on the year a JDM WRX will put out between 240 ps up to 260 ps
The STI's put out up to 280ps maximum for the later models v5 & v6.
Trim levels are very different as are the engines, turbo's and suspension.
Do not buy a cheap STI with little history as most have suffered from poor ownership from pervious owners but do ensure you have either car properly inspected prior to purchase.
Both cars are tunable in standard form but if they have not had an ecu upgrade I would recommend modifying this for uk fuel.

Mines 95 wrx import was 260bhp standard, now it's about 290-300 Approx, I have only de-cated with a nice Single Backbox with 3" twin rolled out pipes (looks different than normal scooby pipes)Done by a firm called Blueflame in Skelmersdale, gonna get it mapped next then Iam done moddng I will only end up smashing it up or getting it nicked.

My old '93 wrx was 240ps as standard. WRX's went from 240 though 260 to 280ps during the "classic" phase. The classic STi's were introduced with 280ps (276bhp) I believe. With only an induction kit, de-cat downpipe & decat exhaust my wrx made 275 bhp on a rolling road. Mods made the throttle response better as well imho....

It also varies on where the mapping is being done as you have to make certain assumptions on some variables. So different people will make different assumptions.
For example mine has a sigma ECU from Steve Simpson and was set up on his rollers. Giving at great expense with other supporting mods, 312/295.
A friend of mine has a uk200 different turbo etc giving him 330/320 ish live mapped by a different mapper.
But my car will keep with his under acceleration....I don't know if power delivery would make any difference as his boosts from about 2000rpm where as mine doesn't pull much below 4000 with max torque at 6200. giving a narrow power band.

With a further £2000 to get from 303/265 to what it is now at 312/295.

Try this webpage for more info according to engine number. Can't vouch for its accuracy, but seems to be well researched.
