its about 280bhp and 4.3 seconds 0-60, but i doubt you will get anywhere near those times from a standard STI

my version 1 sti wagon is running 260 bhp which is approx 20 bhp over standard from what scoobyclinic told me and running 252lbft of torque. 0.60 is about 4.8 seconds

Only way to know how fast your car is in your hands is to have it properly timed (ie not a stopwatch).

Real world:

7 Subarus turned up in various states of tune to a 0-60mph event I went to a couple of years ago. Their BEST times recorded on the day were:

4.98secs
6.36secs
6.48secs
6.73secs
7.36secs
8.11secs

Faster M3s, VX220s, Elises, 200ZX and a Clio (all bar the 1st time)

Are classics faster than hawkeye STi's? I know they are lighter, but they are less powerful as standard.

I'm running 360bhp/390LbFt in a hawkeye which theoretically should get me around the 4.5secs 0-60mph correct?

An inexperienced driver at the wheel will loose seconds on a standing start, probably where the 7-8 seconds came from,
Saw a programme a while back showing how the performance magazines measure 0-60 times, it usually takes them several attempts (not to mention several G/box's, clutch's and diffs) before they get anywhere near the manufacturers claims.

mate is running exactly those figures and was nothing in it between his hawk and my classic, untill hit 90ish on the track and then he started to pull away.

since mine gone up to 338bhp theres nothing in it at all now

Has to be more than inexperience if you ask me.... I've heard of kid gloves, but 0-60 time of 8 seconds is hillarious. I could do that in a Sport. ;-)

Interesting, so on average a hawkeye needs 20bhp over the classic to match it. I would have thought the hawkeye would have been quicker lower gears with all that torque rather than at the top end.

i would of thought you would need a lot more power than that, IMHO i would think you would need 50/60bhp more in a newage car to match a classic shape. 380ish bhp in a newage shape aint that fast as compared with a classic

So a classic running 320bhp will theoretically do 0-60mph in less than 4.5secs? I've always assumed the classic is quicker due to the weight thing, but how come the claimed 0-60mph times don't add up?

I dont think any bhp can do a certain 0-60mph time as its all in the driver. A 500bhp can do 0-60 in 5 seconds if you have the wrong driver Why do you think top gear has the stig racing every car

Gtech meter is 'fairly' accurate IF used properly. Flat surface, setup correctly and run in both directions taking average not best. I use my for personal reference only.

My timed 3.73s was with 340bhp on the way to a 12.3s 1/4mile run. I know that it can go a fair bit quicker than that though

I managed a timed 4.5 in a Type R with 320bhp, was on a 1/4 mile run too and a 60ft of 2.0 so i reckon it could have been faster with more practice.

I read on the Subaru FAQ page that the Type R will get to 60 in 4.3 and the type-ra will get there in 4.1
How acurate that is i dont know but the type r weighs 1240 kgs and the type ra weighs a mear 1200 kgs
They both also have a very very low geared and close ratio gearbox to help aid this fast 0-60 sprint!

on another note is it just coincidence that 2 of the fastest subarus in the country are both typeR's (andy f and olly clark) i know they are modified beyond belief but surely if the ra was a lighter base car they would use them to start with
