This kind of all-embracing enviro-crap is dangerous
BBC NEWS | UK | Eco-motoring 'to help save planet'
The upshot of the piece is that the car tested produced 30% more CO2 cruising at 80mph instead of 70mph.
That's fine for that specific car, under those specific conditions ... but not for all cars.
E.g. my VAG diesel with 6-speed box is up to 10% more economical cruising at 85 than at 70 ... I've proved it many, many times on long m-way journeys.
This is a combination of aerodynamics, gearing, and the higher cruising speed which means less time spent being baulked by lorries etc in lanes 1 and 2.
Next thing will be a blanket 55mph speed limit for "environmental" reasons.

Yes. Most people are comfortable cruising at 80-85mph, at which the Police turn a blind eye. If the limit was 55mph then that would likely change to 70-75mph cruising. Eco objective achieved.

I read the artice on the BBC web site and though the same - one test done in one car (possibly with the smallest engine to get the desired result) and now its stated fact 30% more co2 for going 10 mph faster !
IMO the environmental bit is the latest bandwagon that people wanting to get on in politics / government are spouting about and the rest of the government has worked out they can screw more money out of others in an easy manner while pretending to save the world !

Yep,
If Eco keech was that up on their agenda, they would stop higher poluting vehicles being sold in the UK, but cause it would make a big hole in the treasurers pocket in so many ways they won't.

Who cares because in 50 years time everyone will be worrying about the facter 200 sunbloc. For when the magnetic field goes through it`s expected flip. And all that high energy cosmic radiation slams into the lower atmosphere.

Either my eyes or fooked, or someone read that graph wrong. If you look at the graph at 70mph, I recon the CO2 is about 190g/km. Look at the graph at 80mph and I recon it's about 220g/km. That's in increase of 15.7%

You actually bothered to look at the graph
Facts and figures are always shown to support the government's policy. Even if they have to be bent so much they look like Dale Winton coming through a mangle
