Help re cv boot
I'm not having any luck in the Tech section so........
After taking my alloys off today I noticed the cv boot split and grease everywhere. It seems to be quite old and no doubt empty of grease now.
How are these changed, where would I buy one (not dealers) any special tools required and what grease is to be used..........or does that come with the new boot.
Any help appreciated.
car---My 03 STI.

Any good parts shop will get you one. Grease is supplied with it.
remove hub and brake assembley, if its the outer one remove c/v joint from shaft and fit boot and joint back on.
if its inner then remove comlete shaft from gearbox. remove inner joint forn shaft fit boot and replace c/v

you dont have to remove the hub or the brakes, just undo the nut on the bottem ball joint so that it comes out of the hub and force the lower arm down. make it abit easyer if you are doing it on the floor then id undo the nut for the track rod end aswell. undo the centre nut in the middle of your disc and tap the shaft tho the hub, then pull ur hub towards you and you should have a shaft ready for the boot to be replaced.

take off the inner joint and slide the boot down to the outside
saves you messing about taking the cvjoint off the shaft (horrible dirty job)
honestly i must have been the first person to ever do this as NOBODY ever suggests it (done it twice now )
