what's the best way to clean your engine ?
My 97 Impreza has never had the engine or engine bay cleaned. the engine is really filthy and the bay itself is covered in a waxoil type stuff used by subaru in their corrosion checks it's not very atractive and I'd love to get it gleaming but have some doubts about it affecting the electrics etc . Does anyone know a good reliable method ?

When ever i have bought a car in the past the first thing i have had done is a full valet and engine steam clean regardless of the cars condition, by the time you have bought all the products to do it yourself its not really worth it in the end.
For something like an engine bay clean then let the pro`s do it as they have everything to protect the electrics in the engine bay etc plus they have insurance in case anything does go wrong which is unlikley as they are meticulous. Its good value and doesn`t cost the earth.

I personally use "GUNK" bought from halfords or any good car spares shop, grab yourself 2 spray bottles of it,and dual gun the bad boy
warm the engine for 5 minutes, absolutely soak the engine in gunk, grab a "radiator paint brush" the one's with the long handles, and get scrubbing,my engine is spotless,no oil/grease/grime to be seen anywhere
cheers marcus
