Default Registerd as N reg but feels like earlier model?

Hi,

Is it possible to buy an import that has been registerd as a late 95 on a N reg but Feels like its either late 94 or early 95, My brother in law says that the metal identification code under the bonnet matches my log book and it's not been tamperd with but part of it says that it should be 250bhp in the books but it should be 260 for the reg and year, Also there's small things like red interior and no electric aerial or folding mirrors.

Can anyone shed any light on this matter?

Cheers.

If its got the red 'tiger' seats it should be one of the early ones (pre 95).. 230bhp if IIRC

Wouldnt be the first time thats been done, usually by the total w****r who imported it, trying to get more money.

Well yes, its fraud, you either have not disclosed the correct information to the DVLA (which is fraud) or your selling something that isnt what your selling it as (which is deception), one is a jailable offence (fraud, 5 year min sentence) the other is a big fine.

The applied model number will tell you beyond doubt when the car was manufactured (and so will the tag on the seatbelts -though less accurately). Bear in mind though, that Japanese cars can be registered 'late' as they can here and a MY94 car may not have been registered and used until 1996.

They will do exactly what we do, sell the previous model year off cheaper as a new model year comes in no use keeping a 94 car then registering it in 96, it would have been registered in 94, chances are (as for a lot of dodgy people out there) the documentation has been "amended" and the car sold off as a newer car so they can get more money for it.

Tony, I can assure you that my above statement is correct: based on my extensive experience, both of importing cars from Japan and the Japanese car market in general.

Regards

Checked my tag last night it's on a "A" that means anything from 92 to early 94 according to the list I have just looked at ( Thx Tony),Thing is though what now? Cause If I let D.V.L.A know I will loose my N reg and get something like L or M and loose value, But Iam still not sure about the bhp cause this morning I blitzd a new golf RB model, what are they 240.

I know what your saying simon but it does happen (quite a lot), and here is an example Subaru : RA SPEC -C (1 owner) (53)
2002 model year car registered as a late 2003 car, fact is that all these sold in the first month of release in 2002.... the documentation would have shown first registration in 2002 but its become a year newer.
To me, 2 years is a miracle to knock off

I have an STi V3 which was imported new and registered in 1998. It was imported and owned by one of the directors of the RAC - so no funny business there.

There are a lot of dishonest skankers selling low-end imports now: I agree.
