Default How do I get the rumble?

I have had my 06 Impreza now for two weeks.......Loving it to bits

At the moment all is standard, first job I want to make the car rumble The problem iam having is to find the perfect setup....ie..not too loud or too quite.

Plan A.....Iam thinking about changing the backbox only, too a prodrive or one of the many aftermarket ones.

Will just changing the backbox give me some kind of rumble if so which one of the many backboxes is best.

PlanB....To change the centre section and backbox, I know doing it this way will unleash the Impreza`s classic rumble. Iam I right in thinking doing this will make it too loud.

Iam hoping only changing the backbox will give me the rumble

Changing to an aftermarket back box will give you the burble and i had a prodrive back box on my stock exhaust pipe for a while, it was better than running standard set up but i needed more volume.

hence im running a 4 and a 1/2" bell mouth downpipe into a 3" striaght through system with a 5" back box.

Slight overkill maybe but i love it

so,on the newer scoobs its just the exhaust causing the non burble, not the Headers ?

i alwasy thought it was the headers not casuing it.

i heard an 06 wagon go by me the other day, sounded like my missus Primera GT,so quiet eek !!!

Hawkeye has equal length headers in,to achive the Subaru Burble,it is best to fit Un-equal length Headers.

Fitting a good zorst, will not make the burble, just make it sound like a xr3 with a bean can on it.

My Blitz Nur Spec RX (not spec R) might be worth a listen, its very quiet inside the car at everyday speeds/use. Outside its louder though, much much better than standard (if you concentrate you could imagine a slight burble), once you open it up it roars/screams like a le mans racer

HKS Silentpower is supposed to be similar, they've both been designed with sound limited track use in mind.

I kinda wish I'd gone for the Spec R now though as I have burble envy of all the classics round here...

Wanna buy my exhaust!

I though it was still only the JDM's that have the equal headers

I thought the equal length headers thing was not true too, cant remember where reading it.

Surely there must be someone on here with a 2.5 WRX who has only put a back box on? Do they get the burble.
Think I might want my burble back too lol. Was thinking Racebox

only the jdm 2.0 has equal headers, euro & us has unequal headers.

as standard, the exhaust is disappointingly quiet, so at the very least it needs the center pipe (commonly referred to as the de-res pipe) and the back box replaced.

I still cant decide with mine, I like the quiet approach, but I miss the sound of my 2.0 WRX too.

well if you are undecided, i would go for just a average volume backbox like the TSL grpN or similar, see what it's like, and if it's too quiet, then add a straight de-res pipe afterwards.

or do it the other way round and fit the de-res centerpipe first as the de-res pipe is about £100 new, and maybe fit an STi backbox for the original look.(usually a few of these for sale in the classifieds)

I get the impression nobody really knows, this afternoon I will be ordering the ninja 2 backbox.

So by next weekend I should have the answer.......Burble or no burble, knowing my luck it will sound just like an XR3 with a bore

The new WRX standard back box looks fine to me, but would sorta like to unleash a little noise. Might do the second idea, and see where that goes. If I dont like it, as long as there is no cutting I guess I can always put it back together again lol.

you will get more burble by changing the backbox as you have unequal length headers

Aaah which brings me back to Racebox lol

Hmmm, standardish look, not too loud, just enough to bring out the burble.

Dont suppose you have any video/audio of it do you?

Think I will start with a Racebox and see if I need louder from them. Final answer lol (sorry been watching too much Millionaire )

The vid of it on the site selling them sounds good to me, just wanna be sure its a pretty good representation of what you get.

I don't have a video myself but the audio on scoobyworld site is accurate, despite being on what I think is a 2ltr car. I've not heard the backbox with the standard centre pipe as I had to change both as my car came with a too loud 3" system. It's not quiet, but it is not loud either, so you can here yourself think at motorway speeds, have a nice burble at idle and get the performance roar when using the right foot.

Sure we have had this convo before mate...
