YES it could win, but it won't embarrass it.
Only because I couldn't actually use full throttle off the line (with TC on or off).
In some situations, I've found the Monaro is better launching in 2nd gear, so one can be more heavy with the throttle and clutch (driving a 4wd for so long has made me lazy with the thottlr/clutch control when launching ).
So thats 1 gear from 0-60 to match a decated classic
Dry twisties will be interesting...not yet suffered an inkling of understeer, no matter how hard I push it.
And thats with odd tyres and Teflon coated Pirellis on the rear. Christ, is there such thing as a Pirelli tyre that grips in the wet...because I'm yet to find one.

I'll put it to my mate, just for sh*ts and giggles im sure he'll be up for it bein a fellow petrol head -
Not sure how much the monaro weighs in at, lots of factors too, road conditions, type of standing start you get - was going to work out the bhp per tonne factor of them both - bit like the way the lotus elise/exige weighs the same as my mobile phone and admittley only 118/140 odd bhp but can spank the vast majority of cars to 60!!

Yeah, why not.
Having owned both, I know full well my old UK Impreza consistantly did 0-60 in less than 5.5second, and that was a doddle - lots of revs, feed in the clutch and away she goes. The joy of 4wd - as long as the turbo is spinning it'll fly to 60. Monaro is more tricky, certainly needs more skill to get right. So there is a high chance your mate will fluff the start, unless he uses the traction control, and that will guarantee you'll beat him to 60 beacuse it cuts too much power when/if it kicks in. Also hitting a bump in 1st or 2nd on full throttle will easily break traction on both rear wheels....Its so much fun though.
I suppose it also depends on if its a CV8 or a VXR 6.0, latter having better brakes suspension and the LS2 engine which is a tad more revvy.
It's a heavy old thing (1647kg), but it doesn't seem to suffer much for it. Driven back to back on some very twisty country back roads with a Honda NSX, I would say the Monaro is easily the faster - but only if the driver has the confidence to push it, as the size of teh car and the more compliant suspension and steering would put off alot of people. Honda feels better to drive, much easier to push hard, but it severly lacks the power to make use of the chassis (IMO). Impreza in slots between the two on the same road.

And half the traction ...
Anyway.. have to say I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the VXR monaro.. one day I'll get myself one when the residuals are completely dead
Almost as good as my old toy and just as much of a money pit no doubt

I havent driven a monaro, But have driven a vxr'd maloo(i think thats how its spelt) its the pic up version.
My 300+bhp sti would get NO where near it.
The difference is night and day. The sti was like getting into a 1.1 something after driving it.

a guy along the road from me has one and every time he sees me, he is right up my rear end. Enough was enough slowed right down on a corner then floored it on the straight.
BYE BYE Monaro.
The guy was giving it everything but my P1 kept on pulling away. I could not stop laughing. Now i make a point of looking out for him.
P.S I HATE MONARO'S

If it's a normal British summer, i.e. wet you be laughing....
But all these threads forget that all drivers aren't equally skilled, that's why I picked a 4wd car to get better launches....
To compensate for my old, slow reactions....
I usually let cars beat me off the line in first, and kill 'em thereafter....
Dunx
P.S. Never seen a Monaro nround here....

Sorry, but even after 7 scoobs in 5 years in various states of tune I have to admit to being a Monaro lover! I am sure the average scoob (for arguments sake let's say c260bhp) would beat it to 60mph but without leather and V8 soundtrack.
Having just seen Transformers (yes I was embarressed at being the oldest person in the cinema) I have fallen in love again with V8's (1980's was the last time) - this could be my chance to move from scoobs....but I doubt it. When it comes to buying cars I always kick V8 rubber for a few weeks and then revert to type - Subaru! That said with current depreciation on gas guzzlers it could be a Monaro!
