Euro import warranties
#1
Recently bought my Scoob from Belgium.
I believe you get a three year warranty with cars from Belgium, does anyone know what I need to do to register ?
Cheers

Mike,
Can't answer your question, but I would like to know the details of the dealer you used(e-mail/phone, etc). How would you rate them? etc.
I am considering an EU car next year and have had a price/details from Holland, but would like an alternative avenue to go down.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

sickboy,
the article I have is from What car I think. Let me know if you want a copy.
Bit busy at the moment but will try and investigate this further when I have some time as we have customers with MY01's on order so I would like to get the facts from IM on warranty claims for EU sourced, UK spec cars especially the Belgium wehicles with the 3yr warranty.
thanks

Whoa 3 year warranty on an import?? i only got 1 year manufacturers.
To apply for the warranty you MUST send the following to Subaru UK:
Registration docs (when it arrives)
Dealer invoice.
If you do not and you make a claim through your local Subaru dealer it will take a long time to process and your car will be sitting in a dealers car park.
What happens is that Subaru UK receive a claim from a dealer, they then pass it on to the EU Subaru importer to request that they pay for the work. Then with the OK from them you will get the work performed at your local dealer, but not before.!!.
i know all this as my local dealer made it very very clear that this would happen.
Hope that helps.
If anybody is interested in importing i can reccommend Hans Douwes of Laros Trading. A Scooby dealer 1hr from the Hook of Holland. E-mail him on - laros.trading@worldonline.nl
i found him excellent, and extremely helpful.

Who is the 3 year warranty with on Belgium cars is it with the Belgium importer?
For any major claims does the car have to go back to the foreign dealer?
My MY00 from Holland has a one year manufacturers warranty, that IM adherr once it is registered with them.

SPJ: sign up to the ImportingImprezas group if you're not already there.
I'd recommend Gertjan van der Velde in Zuid Beijerland. Email gj_velde@wish.net or phone him (preferable) on +31 186 661556
He's a top bloke. No complaints from anyone so far, and none for another chap called Frits Kempen.

Yeah, I have wondered about the Belgian warranty. I got my car from Alliance Car Imports. They say just take your car to any Subaru dealer and they will gladly do warranty work for 3 years (My ****!) I rand Subaru Vilvoorde that supplied the car and they said something along the lines of "you englishman, You get 1 year warranty, Me Belgianlady I get 3 year warranty." I started up "yeah, but Alliance car imports said....." And she cut me off "Ah, you with Alliance car imports, that is different"
Sounds a bit fishy.
I remember PT was chasing this up with IM but I have not seen him post for a while.

I bought my MY00 from Frits Kempen a couple of months ago. I can't think of any dealer in the UK that would:
a) Pick you up from the train station.
b) Buy you Lunch.
c) Spend 2 hours going over the car and the paperwork.
d) Offer to put you up for the night.
e) Buy flowers for your wife/girlfriend.
f) Guide you on to the motorway for the return journey.
g) Ring you at home the next day to make sure everything is OK.
Frits did all of the above and saved me £6K+.

I was wondering if you could hear my teeth grinding through the internet.
Can't say too much, but don't get your hopes up too high when it comes down to warranty claims in my beloved country. I would personally advise - if you want to do the import dance - to deal with the Dutch dealers, but that's just my personal opinion.
Theo
PS: only the first year is full warranty, for the 2 other years there is a list of things that are not covered anymore. And if you ever do a mod on your car, you can be pretty sure nothing is covered at all.

I see I am referred to here as championing the cause of the three year warranty for Euro-import cars. The tack I took with Mr Swatman was to say "yes I quite understand that you do not want to cover our cars after the first year as your warranty with the factory in Japan is for one year only. And after that you take the claims on the chin; so why not sell us as owners (and Lord knows there's a lot of us now) the second and third years' warranty cover"
His response, very politely put in a personally signed missive was, Foxtrot Oscar! So sorry chaps, NO DICE.
Unless anyone knows better of course.........

I asked the chaps at Cheam Motors about this when having my first service, they called the Extended Warranty dept but as soon as those words "Euro Import" were mentioned it was a straight NO!
They even tried to to convince them by saying how many they would be able to sell to all their Euro Import customers but no joy!
They did register my car with IM for me though...top guys!
