Bugeye Radiator Cap - Advice Plz
I did something very silly. I unscrewed the cap to check the water but somehow forgot to put it back on. Predictably about 20miles later the water ran out and temp was hitting red. Managed to get home by filling it with water from the wiper-box.
Im using my friend's spare Evo cap and it fits perfectly. However my bro went to the subaru showroom to order a subaru one and they said it has to be the original subaru because of water pressure (or something similar). Were they trying to dupe him ? (at 17pounds a cap)

17quid to prevent head gasket failure sounds like a bargain to me
Chromed STi ones come up on the sale forum on here every now and then, but I'd just pay the money and get it bought. And 10mins after buying it you'll find your old one on the road I bet.

It's not a case of just sealing it, the boiling point of water is increased under pressure iirc. The aftermarket STi one (£40 from your local Subaru dealer)
has a stronger spring thus a higher boiling point. Obviously hoses are put under higher pressure as well etc.
I don't know what the rating of the Evo cap is, but is it worth the risk?
