MY05 STI PPP vs Focus ST
What do you think would happen in the real world (traffic lights, rolling starts, cornering etc...)?
Anyone had any experiences with the Focus ST?
I tried to do a search but couldn't find much on this topic....

On paper at least, the STi PPP should **** all over it

Put it this way, my 05 WRX has left every FRS/ST I've ever come across with ease, including Bluefin/Pumabuild variants. The only one that's come close was Scoobyboy1's (aka John's) very well modded FRS that was putting out ~265bhp/280ft-lb..
Depends if your PPP is a genuine 300bhp or not..!

Focus ST is a nice looking car and not bad as a hot hatch, but they don't come close to the STI out on the road. Top end bet there wouldn't be too much in it, but they would be a distant memory by the time you got to 4th gear anyway.
I've toyed with a couple and only have a standard STI.
I also prefer the RS to the ST, both for looks and performance.

My mate has one and i have driven it, as well as us doing some 'tests' against my modded JDM.
TBH i really liked the car. Even though mine was considerably quicker from standing/rolling starts (370/370) etc it was no slouch. It would give a wrx PPP with poor driver something to think about.

Ok guys thanks for the replies, I thought the Focus ST didn't stand any chance, it's just that I heard a few people rating them very highly and I over heard one guy at work saying he beat a Subaru, don't know which Subaru though.

Mate,
you always get that with a subaru.
a new lad started at work and he saw my car and came and spoke to me and I quote..."Nice scooby mate, not as fast as you think. I did one off the lights the other week"
I asked him what he drives......"Saxo vtr with a powerflow exhaust, its rapid man" came the reply
I walked away.

A lad in our club had one for a bit (he owns a JDM STI) and he reckon a standard ST would beat a standard WRX - a JDM STI would be a different matter though

My company has dozens of STs on the fleet and I get to drive them regularly. Yes it is a good car and handles better than my WRX when it was standard and has better low down pull, but giving it some beans shows up real traction limitations if the road is even slightly damp. The traction control works overtime unless your careful with the throttle.
I'd say it would give a std WRX a hard time on a dry road, but against any STi, PPP'd or not, it wouldn't stand a chance. Throw in some rain and you'd be laughing.
I wouldn't swap my WRX for one, but I wouldn't complain if I was given one!

I think it's a fairer comparison with a WRX, not an STI.
Agreed on the "I can race a scooby" thing as well... I get every man and his dog revving his engine at me or attaching himself to my spoiler. Most of the time I just ignore them.

My friend has a new 07 Plate ST - 3 and we compared that with my MY07 WRX similar miles on the clock about 2000 each. The WRX was quite a bit quicker ( more than I imagined it to be ) because of the traction. My friend said he couldn't get the power down, and I was gone lol. Love them though they have a real quality feel inside and the seats are fantastic.

Using maths this is what happens:
New age wrx
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 225
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1350
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 169.34
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.83
0 - 100 (Secs) : 16.47
60 - 100 (Secs) : 10.64
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.60
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 94.16
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.20
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 97.05
focus st
Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 222
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1317
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 171.27
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.39
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.96
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.58
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.77
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 96.17
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.57
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 97.85
So an sti ppp would give the st a good pasting

I look forward to meeting one on the road, I'd love to give it a good pasting and make up for the beating Ford are giving us in the WRC.
I think because the Focus is beating the Impreza in the WRC, the Ford boys are getting excited!! lol

I remember one giving it some just after I'd got my STI..
I didn't bother as I rightly believed it wouldn't be a race.. more of an ****-kicking.. lol
Not that I condone racing on the road.....

One of the first things I did when I got my Sti PPP was race my friend in his FRS. I left him far behind. Now he has a Z3M Coupe and will see me off in a straight line no problem

I've had a play with the Focus RS rolling start as you enter the m50 to Monmouth at around 7.00 in the morning tit was up my **** so I floored it and pulled away slowly but I did pull away.My Classic Scooby was still standard at that point (apart from exhaust Knuckle back and induction kit).Do prefer the Focus RS to the ST though.Have had a play with a ST This was after I had my scooby back From Scoobyclinic and lets say I wont waste my petrol next time.Am I right in saying the so-called experts say you cannot go much over 250bhp without compromising the drive in a FWD car or did I hear wrong can't remember where I heard it to though.

ignoring hugely inflated power claims by overly devotional enthusiast websites (not my words) and base it on sheer cornering ability the ST is by no means a crap cornering car and in the hands of a quite capable driver would give an sti ppp a run for its money.......
btw the topgear test time for the STi WAS with the PPP, it did it when the raced the evo (f-16 fighter bomber) which did it in 1.28 something, in scotland, so the margin is not as big as you thought considering the impreza has 80 more bhp. It also did the nurburgring in 8.50something as opposed to the Focus RS' 9 minutes.

We should have had another test of the 2 cars after I had the new ceramic coated Milltek manifold and boost controller set up, its a real hand full now(wet roads dont help)!!!! I think with the last few mods on now its running 280bhp 320lb/ft!!!
I'll pop round when I get the new car mate, we can have another blast up those roads near your house again, enjoyed the last time!!!!!!!

simple fact in the UK here is it rains....Focus ST RS etc One of the reasons I bought a scooby in the first place, no I dont got flooring it around in the wet but lets just say I dont sit there *rapping myself about understeering hatches and oversteering beamers either thanks. For me a Focus wants to be taken seriously give it a 4 wheel drive train until then no comparision to a scooby in my eyes.

Well said AllyJ i totally agree i have been driving stupidly powerful front wheel drive cars for far to long i have had my wrx now for weeks and still cant get use to not having to worry about wheelspin or getting pulled on to the other side of the road with torque steer. I think cars like the st and vxr are completely flawed in concept and if ford and vauxhall dont develop a proper 4 wheel drive system they will never be on the same par as a scooby or an evo. it doesnt matter how good an st is on the race track if it even looks like it is going to rain it will get humped
