So does anyone like this new Impreza or what? I am slowly coming to terms with the bug-eyed frontend(WHY NO BONNET VENTS) but not to sure on the slab-sided rear, with silly spoiler. AND WHY MAKE IT SLOWER. So please let me know is this the way foward, and has anyone ordered one.

They're advertising it heavily in all the weekend colour supplements. I think they're trying to cash in on the Impreza's reputation with a car that's a bit more acceptable to the mainstream (i.e. looks like a Toyota, drives a bit smoother than the current car...).

It does feel slower but is it?
Has anyone timed both cars under equal conditions?
Auto Express claimed the best 0-60 they could manage in the new car was 6.4 Secs.
I think the extra 150Kgs and extra Catalyst have dampened the acceleration slightly.

Malcolm, I recently attended a trackday where there was an MY01 going round too.

On the straights I was leaving it for dead (I have a lightly modified UK98), however it was impressive through the corners for a car running road tyres with standard suspension...

Cool

I drove one yesterday...

WR Blue metallic, Prodrive front spoilers & Sideskirts & rear diffuser, Prodrive back-box.

How does it compare to my MY99 ?

Performance wise? Nothing in it, really. Boost comes in a bit higher 'bout 3750rpm. Top end is much smoother. Loves to rev.

Suspension? Fantastic - Limo-quality ride, no transmitted vibration in comparison. Feels very well planted. (I have prodrive handling pack on my MY99).

Other stuff? Better initial brake feel, steering lighter, interior roomier and brighter. Steering column can drop so far as to obscure dials!

With the extra body mods, it looks $million...I hate the standard looks though.

I'd have one.

When they do a PPP I'd really like one.

When the STI version hits the shores, I'll certainly bloody want one!

So - Don't knock it until you've tried it !

Question

Malcolm
I took one out on Sunday, definitely slower IMO. .... but I have heard that 0-60 it is in fact quicker than the out going model [1] but after that looses out slightly.

Adam

[1] Test was based on three runs, swapping drivers after each run.

Dunno why anyone would want a standard WRX version, but a UK spec STi might well be
on my wish-list in a year or so's time. As long as there's an STi wagon, that is...

Wink

Maybe they've blanked the vents off so that they can redirect the hot air directly over the front windscreen. Hey presto! Heated front windscreen without all the hassle of an electric one!!
