Default Calling Sti Owners - Can you drive an Sti with DCCD at 50-50 on the road.

I have always owned classic WRXs.
I like the 50-50 permanent front rear split for the road - progressive understear.
For the track I prefer overstear hence an Sti with its rear bias would be good.

So if I bought a classic Sti with DCCD. Can you drive it about on the road with the DCCD set up right to end so you get a 50-50 front rear split - and understear on the limits of grip. If so I will asume that it will handle like a standard WRX?

And when I took it to a track I could alter the DCCD and put more power going through the rears say 30-70

The reason I ask this is that I am sure I have heard that the DCCD set at 50-50 isnt very driveable on the road - this is just floating around in the back of my head so I could be wrong?

Can you get an Sti to behave like a standard WRX if it is set up with the 50-50 split on the limits of its grip?

Anyone owned both cars and can give me a good comparision
Cheers
Steve

If you got a classic with dccd you wouldnt want to make it handle like a wrx imo its much better and that is with driving a few.

And yes with the diff locked its not as drivable on the road/tarmac in comparison to the wrx thats for sure.

So with the diff locked - no good on tarmac. My memory served me right then.
Thanks

Type R dccd
on the road: fully open, all is well.

Agree - But you need the space to enjoy it - which often isnt the road

Where are you guys getting your percentages F/R from? Do the early versions work in percentages?

The 06/07 STi have quite a complex explanation in the manual referring to two diffs which I haven't got my head around yet.

In the 06 STi - I leave mine on Auto DCCD for normal road stuff - let it figure out where best to find grip.

On track or wanting to play though - the DCCD into manual and 1 click up works well.

I dont think its quite as simple as having a % split front and rear according to the lights on the dash. If I remember right a fully locked diff can feed virtually all the power to one set of wheels, The more you lock the diff the more it feeds power to the wheels with more grip. Please don't take this as gospel, just how I understood it.

A fully locked diff is not intended for dry road use.

a fully unlocked diff will do that.

a full lock is 50:50

The lights are only an indication but there is a definite lick for the first light on mine so that is a good gauge of where it is on the scale.
