Is this a STi ver 4 intercooler? Think I got con...
I just bought this off ebay, fitted it today but the size it look exactly the same as my UK MY98 WRX intercooler, the only different is the Y pipe, stock one is in rubber and this is in metal.
eBay.co.uk: SUBARU IMPREZA STi VERSION 4 INTERCOOLER - lots of pics (item 110137886369 end time 18-Jun-07 21:45:00 BST)
Car does feel abit faster but I think I had a leak before with the rubber pipe.

It is definatly of an STi model, of which year, im not sure, I sold mine off my STI v4 Type R for £120, but it was not as good condition as that.
I think the newer shape models had STI written across the face of the intercooler, so i dont think that you were ripped off there mate.

I would not call it a waste of money as with the right mapping and future upgrades it can work well.
Dont just think that by bolting on a bigger intercooler you will get instant power gains, you will need the supporting mods to suit it.

I have a V4 STI and it looks exactly like mine apart from the STI sprayed across it. That's not standard. Also, changing an intercooler will not give you any more power. However it may afford you more power if you remap but you'll then also need a mappable ECU e.g. Power FC

But the size are the same. I measure it and it have no different at all apart from the Y Pipe.
Not gonna mod too much on this car, as its a tow car for my race car so just basis mod - not gonna remap.

That age STi has exactly the same IC as non STi (WRX/UK turbo or even Forester turbos) the only difference is that its silver (so will absorb less radiated heat, but also radiate less heat - all marginal though) and other than looking bling the swap is pointless, however the better underside pipework is nice, get a dremel in the ally sections to clean them up, fit them to your original IC (if its in as good condition as the fins on that pic look A1 which is rare) and sell the silver painted version you have!
