Well if that`s the only light showing you`re ok, ( I THINK), If it goes up to the red then it`s time to back off, i have one but they do tend to make you paranoid so i don`t get that involved with TBH...

Some people HATE them, others swear by them..

If they couldn't tell you anything about it, are you sure they fitted it properly??

1st green light should be always dimly lit, to indicate device is on.

You may see one or two greens under WOT etc.. Any ambers or reds, back off straight away and see your mapper.

It detects knock (detination) in your engine.........I would suggest in a standard (ish) car it is not necessry, in a heavily modified car it may be required.

If it was that important it would have been in there as standard from Subaru

There already is a OEM knock sensor in all std scoobies (no visual display obviously) but many experts have cast doubt as to it's sensitivity, especially at high RPM.

Its a very simple device, uses a microphone over no 3 cylnder, basically you have 4 lights in a row and a larger one at the top, you need to put the sensitivity up to the max though, its a little dial on the top or bottom (cant remember which), so first green is ok, going hard you may get it into the second green (2 stages of colours, flickering and solid), green is ok, now amber is telling you to back off as its hearing a bit more noise, if you get det it wont be the amber your seeing (though you should be backing off with amber) but it will flick to red, it may be very quick when it does so and all the lights will light up, normally changing gear or at WOT (wide open throttle).
It is just an indication of whats happening, you can get false alarms if the microphone is loose etc but atleast you can see to back off if there may be a problem

Tony, so when you`ve gone into red, is/has damage been done, or is it just a case of backing off for a while??

When its red that means your getting det, it causes damage if you dont do something about it though so taking your foot off and then figuring out why your getting det is the next step in the equasion, ie just filled up tank with unleaded instead of super

I think BRdevelopements do them, you need the bosch sensor as well as the knocklink, its been a while since ive bought one but for both about 130-150 quid.
