Default 2.5 conversion will it work?

HI I have a 1998 terzo engine was knocking so i have stripped it bare.It turned out it had eaten 2 big end shells so after careful consideration i want to do a 2.5 conversion.I have seen some deals in flatfour online, what i need to know is will it run with my standard tdo4 turbo and heads or am i asking for big trouble?

Heads will work, but IMO a TD04 turbo is far too small for a 2.5

TD05 20G is commonly used on 2.5 conversions. This will give somewhere between 360-400bhp, with a good usable power band.
A TD04 would run out of puff very early in the rev range on a 2.5

Default re-2.5 coversion

Did it run with your ecu or did you have it re-mapped before you started it.Are there any major problems you had? Someone said about head gasket thickness to be correct to keep compression right?

Assuming the engine's built properly and the ECU is remapped, the lot could work as it is IMO. Though better intercooling is always handy.

With a TD04, I don't think the term turbo-lag will exist. Though top end will be limited and boost will tail off dramatically at the top end.

Depends what you want from the car. For a torque monster B road eater, use the smallest turbo that meets your power goals and run as much boost as you can through the midrange.

When i bought my terzo, it was a EJ25 conversion, with the following, TD05 20G turbo(running&mapped to 1.2bar), GEMS management system with Anti Lag, Hayward and Scott turbo down exhaust system, s/s uneven headers(keep the burble) SX FPR, 550 denso injectors, front mount pace intercooler(with HKS D/V), K&N induction kit. It is however on WRX heads which IIRC are off a 2.0 WRX, still does the job and is about roughly 360 - 380 HP on the 5 speed box according to my mgr. I haven't had it on the rollers scince ive owned it but would be intressting to see the true output..
I was told that if i was to go for 6spd box then it could mean that you go through the gears rather quickley, hence why my ex mgr who i bought the car off kept the 5 speed box.

Its a good idea to go EJ25, but its all about how much money is burning a hole in your pocket, because at the end of the day you want a top class job, not half done.

Unfortunately where my engine was done have shut up shop now and don't do the conversions anymore, but API and Scoobyclinc would be able to sort out your needs.

Let me know how it goes if you decide to go 2.5.

can't map terzo's IIRC
you would need a stand alone like apexi, gems, motec, link etc etc

as for heads, i have UK heads with my ej25, no problems
as for turbo , yeah the td04 will be pish but it will work just don't expect 300 bhp
consider a td05/16g or td04 hybrid for 325ish bhp
will make your box and clutch last longer than a 20g would

Anyone told their insurance company ?

My cover allows ANY other mods for free, but NOT a 2.5 conversion.

Roll-on bigger turbo and 400 bhp, LoL

dunx, yep declared all mods hence me paying £2.5k for insurance.

Jim, In my honest opinion go for aftermarket ecu's, as above there are loads out on the market, i.e apexi, GEMS, etc etc. If your looking for the 400+ mark then I dont think a prodrive ecu will be able to cope with it, so better to spend a few pennies more and go aftermarket.
