Default Remapping, Downpipes and Dumpvalves. Need help

Guys and Gals,

Ive had my stock WRX Bugeye for a while now and have pretty much come to the end of 'cosmetic' modding. Im now turning my attentions towards eeking a liitle extra 'oomph' out the engine. So, aside from strippping my car of all heavy things and taking the engine to peices to change pistons, cams etc etc, What are the best, most popular 'bolt on' - or 'bolt off' as the case may be - parts to beef up a stock WRX engine?

The main, I can think of are:

* Remapping of ECU
* Aftermarket Turbo Downpipe
* Dumpvalve (opinions please)

I have a standard paper air filter on which after trying other filters / induction I believe to be the best type for air flow and a Prodrive Backbox. The rest of the 'mechanical' parts are standard.

Please give me advise, any do's or dont's are much appreciated.

Sc101.

When the warranty ran out on my MY03 WRX Stealth Wagon I went for a H&S zorst (Group Buy) & a remap.

Hayward & Scott 100 cell high flow down pipe (only 2 BHP loss over decat pipe & MOT friendly)

H&S Up pipe

H&S Centre pipe straight through

I already had the short section from the PPP & the Backbox.

Followed by a Tek3 re-map with Pat Herborn to get everything flowing nicely.

Resulting in :-

290bhp up from 252bhp (PPP)

275lbft up from 263lbft (PPP)

Boost 1.3bar up from 1.2bar.

I am a happy bunny

Changing the Dump valve will make no difference to your 'oomph' only the weight of your wallet. So leave it alone.

What exactly do you get in a Prodive Performance Pack?

Cheers,

Just do what Flat Eric suggested. Maybe include replacing the OE filter with an alternative panel filter such as K&N. Don't both with induction.

That will do you for a while.

Yup, as Eric says.

You can get the sportscat downpipe and the decat up-pipe/centre pipe from Scoobyworld or API (or on fleabay).

Ecutek by a mapper near you.

However, the brakes and handling will be shown to be not so hot at that level - suggest Whiteline ARB & droplinks (plus Prodrive springs a & geometry if you have the cash to splash). Brakes-wise call AS Performance re Pagids or Ferodos.

Are you on good terms with your bank manager/the missus ?

What sort of performance increase would I see from changing the Turbo downpipe to a de-cat pipe? Ive heard people say you can hear the turbo spool-up whistle louder. Most importantly, would just de-catting the down-pipe fail an MOT emissions test?
