This explains what 'offset' is:

Alloy wheels, wheels, onformation on wheels, offset, wheel offset, wheel sizes.

Default thanks for explainin

now the question is will a set of alloys with a 35 offset fit and be ok, according to the info website some people put a smaller offset wheel on their cars to make the overall width of the tyre track wide. so is it poss and should i do it?

I would give it a miss with an offset of 35.

Anything from 48 to 53 would be my choice.

35mm offset will increase the load on your wheel bearings and also change the steering and suspension geometry slightly (increase scrub). I'm sure they will fit, but its not the best idea to use them. Stick with the recommended offset.
