This has been put in the ICE section without any replies - so will try here (so DONT have a go at me,ok? )

On the verge of changing the unit on my MY00 Wagon and seen what appears to be a bargain CD changer combo - the question is - has anyone got one and is it any good?? or have a view on the quality of the unit??

It is a JVC Radio/Cassette/12 disc changer - model number CH-PK453R (this consists of the KS-FX453R head unit and the CH-X350 changer) its all up at a speacial offer price of £180 !!! which seems remarkable good value (but why? is it pooooo?) answers on a £20 note please!!

Personally I'd put the £180 towards some gold alloys. Chuckle.

Ok Ok Ok everyone - we seem not to be running JVC kit in our cars

So? can we all share what we have, is it any good, how much, did you change the speakers as well, is a CD changer worth having?

I have the standard (PHilips?) and its fair I suppose - have had much better on Fords and my Calibra had a speed sensitive volume control - why is this not standard now??

Best sensibly priced readily available kit is Clarion, Sony or Alpine IMHO. If you listen to a lot of CDs/spend a lot of time in your car yes then its very handy to have a multidisc changer.

Why not go Mini Disk? That way you don't have loads of expensive and scratchable CD's in the car. Home recorders don't cost much from RicherSounds et al and they only charge about a pound for blanks.

Hi pete .im using a panasonic autochanger stored in the boot,hardly ever jumps in my 97 uk car.

No, either under the front passenger seat or under the rear parcel shelf or on the back of the rear seat.

AND there is a heater vent under the passenger seat !!! is that wise??

Also does it need to be screwed down if its under the front seat??? does the seat need to come out??

I have a Pioneer 6-disc multichanger under my front passenger seat. It's held in place by several strips of that sticky back velcro. Sticks a treat, doesn't skip and more importantly you dont have to take the seat out!! Sometimes hear a sickly crunch when the electric recaro's go a little low though!

serisouly tho... I've had JVC, Kenwood, Clarion,Panasonic and Pioneer kit in my cars and my fave by far is the Pioneer stuff, can't go wrong with it imho. Kenwood should stick to food processors, JVC to sex gear and Clarion to contact lenses. Oh and Panasonic to non-stick kitchen-ware.

Had the same unit fitted to my old WRX RA, this had STI racing struts fitted at the rear, and the car was like a boneshaker at times. But the JVC unit never let me down. Don't forget any Hi Fi is only as good as its worst part, so if your not going to spend a fortune on speakers, I would go for the JVC unit.
