Regularly upset my mates Targa & C4. Like polarbearit says, upto the 90-100 mark and on the twisties it's bye bye porker. Above that however they disapear. Unless of course the scoobs hard tuned! Which unfortunately mine isn't.

I'm actually thinking of getting a 911. I think the 993 was the most beautiful (the curves are all wrong on the 996's) and specifically the 993 Carrera-S rear wheel drive seems the pick of the bunch, in termes of looks, performance and fun. Wouldn 't want a C4 as I reckon that would spoil the fun.
The thing is these cars have real class, civility and superb engines. A left hooker from Germany wouldn't be that expensive either. (I can cope with LHD having owned 2 integrales).
I just reckon 911's are the next logical automotive "career move" step along really.

Agree with zoog, I'd sell the 22B get a 993RS in a moment if I didn't need 4 seats and a boot .
As to which is faster, it all comes down to the driver. Scoobies are cheaper and seem to be driven more aggressively on the whole than Porsches. When u r in a porker the cost of repairs should you wrap it around a lamp post is always going to be in the back of your mind...can't believe I've posted on one of these us v them threads, god i must be bored.
Chucky 2 scoobs.

Mate at work chopped in his 993 C4 for an M5(v8) (kids on the way) reckons the Porsche is just quicker than the M5 point to point, but you have to know how to drive them. Claims to have done Edinburgh to Inverness in 1:15!(late night, cruise on 110 round the twisties)
I'm not sure how some folks can say a 911 (993) is slower than the mythical "scooby" - a 993 has what 320/330 bhp?
Check out these guys www.911virgins.com - I want one now. I'm buggered if I'm gonna loose 10k in two years on a new car again, this is the solution methinks.

Well guys I got a C4, 996, MY 2000, and it eats Impreza's for breakfast. I've already had this out on this forum a few times and there is no standard (i.e. 215 bhp) Impreza which can live with a C4, 0-60, 0-100, on the track.....whatever. I do not doubt that P1's etc. may be up there though.
I mean my C4 has a listed 0-62 of 4.8 seconds.....does the normal old shape Impreza not take about 5.4 and even the P1 etc about 5
It makes me mad when Impreza drivers go on and on about being quicker than Porsches. There is such a difference....no comparison. Then there's the other things like style, poise grace etc. which the porsche has in abuntance .
I'd recommend a 911 to anyone. The only gripe I have is with other drivers, perfectly demonstrated by some people (and not all ) who persist in tring to prove 'my car is faster than yours' at every set of lights .

I'm with 911boy, although the figures I saw were 4.9secs to 60mph and 0-100mph in 12secs (!)
I've had a short 2nd an 3rd gear thrash with one, and there was really nothing in it either way.
My car is running 304bhp,333lb/ft though..................

Russ,
I don't doubt there's much difference between yours and mine. What gets me is these guys witha standard UK spec (215 bhp) claiming to be quicker. It makes me , but then I can rise above it living in the real world rather than their fantasy one
Anyway, 911 drivers always have the last laugh as they could have a scooby as well if they wanted (only kidding LOL).

Class apart though as you say. One day maybe............
Yep, there is a world of difference between circa 200 bhp and c.300bhp. Been there, felt the g-force!
200 is quick, but 300 is brutal, aggressive stuff, particularly in the lower gears. 400+ must be breathtaking.

I agree with 911 boy on this one.
Had a run in with 993 in my MY98 got trousered. In gear times of 993 are far better than std scoob giving much more rounded performance.
Have also had a tussle with 996 in the P1 nothing in it (although were not driving at high speeds). I suspect though I had to work harder to keep P1 on the boil than he did.
P1 0-60mph is about 4.6-4.7 for what its worth (nothing in the real world)

My WRX is approx 250-260bhp and definately faster than a 911 until as stated 90-100, when scooby acceleration slows down and the 911 keeps pulling. As I said the 911 is a car I really wanted to like, but I was hugely underwelmed... I have no doubt that the 993RS is special and hugely more entertaining than a 993C4, and the 911 turbo, is a car I would still love, but a standard 911 just doesn't do it for me. I also think that a to 60, a standard 208/218bhp scooby will be very closely matched to a standard 993 (which I thought was 275/290bhp depending on year).
That said if I had to travel half way across europe I know which car I'd choose.
2 very different cars really.

polar,
A 993 has 276 hp...I thik and in terms of times there's about 1/5 a second in it compared to a standard 215 bhp Impreza. The 996 (which mine is) is quicker gain so theres about 0.7 seconds in it. This obviously is'nt that much off the lights....but I'd preffert o be in mine. 0-100 is a different story and mine is about 4 seconds quicker than a standard scooby and about 1 second faster than a P1!!!

My friend drives a year old 996 carerra4 - we finally sorted it outt in summer!
My girlfriend decided she'd rather be in the porker with the hood down rather than the Scoob.
She always picks losers!
My Type RA V-Limited is a 99, exhaiust/filter changed only and i seriously left him for dead. Not even close. As both our bottles went at 130mph ish, i'll never know if he'd have caufght me! But up to that speed, he was disappearing into the mirror.
Incidentally, my car recorded 4.41 0-60 and 11.77 0-100 at the Banzai thrash, so it puts Porshe figures into perspecttive a bit doesn't it
All this took place on a private airfield of course...
The bit he REALLY hates tho, is that when they're parked next to each other the Scoob gets all the attention! After all, thats why he bought the Porsche!

Whats your opinion on C2 vs C4? I think you have a 4wd? I personally would probably go for the rwd I m a bit bored with 4wd after 2 integrale evos in a row. would prefer to get back to playing with the rear in corners at will, even if it is slower.
thanks
Adrian

zoog,
I prefer the C4 as it give me a bit of pease of mind when the weather is'nt too nice. I know the C2 is a true drivers car, but I prefer the safety the four wheel drive affords me, and it does'nt really cost anything in straight line performce (even though it does weigh a bit more).
Cheers

Also here are some times you may be intrested in:
From new autocar:
0-62 4.6 seconds
0-100 10.1 seconds
My one:
0-62 4.8 seconds
0-100 11.8
Find me an Impreza with that kind of 'standard' performance
