Default Worried about engine noise..help!

I have only had my new impreza since saturday and yesterday i noticed a strange noise coming from what sounded like the back of the engine.

You can hear it inside the car but not from outside. Ive lifted the bonnet and stil cant hear it from there. Im thinking it must be coming from somewhere underneath the back of the dashboard.

Its making a kind of rattling noise but the noise dissapears at revs higher than around 1500rpm. It is only really noticeable when idling. The noise is there when engine is both hot and cold

I hope it isnt serious!!

Any ideas??

I hope it is just something like that.

Its a 2000 classic impreza. Its done 52k and has a full subaru service history. I think i will take it to my local garage to see exactly where the noise is coming from

Put a work glove on and press on the sheild, when it's cold that is (H&S)
If it's loose you may be able to tell straight away when the rattle stops.

Hi guys,

I think ive found what was causing the rattle.

Theres a thin sheet of metal covering something underneath the engine which has rusted and is loose..its just to the left of where the oil filter is...

what is this??

Is it safe to remove this?

If not would i have to go to a Subaru main dealer to get a new one?

How much would it cost?

Cheers

Is it worth getting a new one of these?
How much would a new one be from a main dealer?

I took mine off nearlt 2 years ago and have never had any problems, main dealers be prpared to bend over and lube up, If you really want to stick a new one on find a decent breakers ps those 4 bolts are probably rusted to **** as well and sheer off like mine did, years of heating up and cooling down can make them a bastid to undo.
