Default Engine blewup

Engine went, flatout in 5th...
Lots of smoke...

Now I can do 3 things :

Back to standard open deck
STI 2.0 short block
Custom made standard blovk (stronger conrods/pistons...)

All this with standard TD04 turbo, maybe in the future a VF37 or so but not much more...

Decisions, decisions...

Speak to David at APi mate.

Tell him Ns04 says hi!

If you're wanting to do any more sustained high speed antics (on a private road/track of course!) then I'd cost a FMIC into your rebuild lest the same thing happen again!

I would, but since the "stalking" trial he has a restraining order on me preventing me from making direct contact

I'm only in it for the fabled Bacon Butty!

That said, APi is one of the few places you can take your Scooby with no fear of getting F**ked!

They are good, but, they are also 'very' expensive.
£2400 for an sti3 engine rebuild, plus £550 to remove and re-fit the engine (kind of thought that would be included in the build ), plus vat, bringing the total to £3466.25. That IS expensive when I just asked for a basic re-build. 'Oh no sir, we only use the best of the best in our build.'

I imagine a bit red alarm is going off in Scoobynet towers right now as you've been slightly negative about APi in a post

Not negative, just truthful. I'm sure their work is top-notch, but, there are other companies out there capable of doing the same job, to the same specs, for a lot less.
Out of the 5 quotes I had, Api's was the most expensive...by some £600!
And the other quotes were from well-known scooby tuners, not some side-street garage owned by 'big Al'!

LOL: Negativity alert!! Negativity Alert.

I'm not really in a position to coment about what constitutes "expensive" as far as engine builds go as I've not been ion a position where I've had to do the homework (touchwood)!!! What I do know is that a proper build will not be cheap!

We also know from experience that David is one of the few who will openly give example quotes on here for scrunity.

We do know that when he gets an engine built it'll be done right!

We also know of lots of Cowboys who'll claim to do the job well cheap and then add lots of "unforseen" extras to your bill, or give you some nice Legacy Cams on your Impreza when your back is turned!

Pay peanuts, get Monkeys!

Not sure how much different a V2 to a V3 is but my quote was/is £1600 for the rebuild & £500 to fit ...so about £2500 inc the dreaded?

Obviously a lot!
I can't believe the difference in prices, even from the same people.
I was also quoted £2200 for a re-built v3 engine from api. Why is it £200 more to have my own re-built??

Save yourself some money and buy an STI block from the States and benefit from the exchange rate, then just get a competant garage to fit it.

If you want to spend 3 grand then fair enough but you want your head testing if you aint going to mod it a lot

Didn't go bang, but was making the dreaded 'big-end' knocking noise.
This is my third scoob and I bought it quite cheap due to this problem.
Its an sti 3.
Its getting a new crank, main bearings, big end bearings, full gasket set, one new conrod as the others are fine. Also whacking on a decat downpipe while the engines out.
