Yet another of our cars was stolen this morning [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] (5th this year + 2 vans )

Car was being used by one of the Director's wives & she went to the Doctors with their sick child ( ). Whilst there, some ****** reached into her handbag, when she wasn't looking & lifted the keys, went o/side, found the car & drove off

About 10 mins later it was found to be missing & she phoned us. We informed our tracking people & got onto the plod. It was tracked from Holloway (N London) to Hackney (E London) where it came to a stop. Armed Response Unit ( ) stormed in but no driver in sight. Secured the vehicle & we sent around some "guards", got the spare key and brought it back to the office. Job done - car safe & undamaged, not ragged & our company doesn't lose out big-time

Approx time from theft to back in our hands? Just less than an hour

If you haven't got one of these things, go out & get one, it's well worth it.

I was reading the advert in Auto Car last night.. which claims similar things.. but with the back up that it actually is true..
sounds well worth it...

Cost seems to range from £300 to £1000 which is odd..

I bet £5 that the Police don't have the power to take a list of all people visiting the surgury this morning and visit them for questioning... they should be able to... bet some confidelity will stop them... assuming they could spare the time anyway (lots of speeders to catch and all that).

Just wondered what the protocol is here.

 

HOT TIP, keep your key on a bit of elastic tied to your trouser/jacket pocket. Unless they steal your trousers wearing them it is unlikely they will take your car ..

999 as it was a "Crime In Progress" in that they can stick the blue lights on & go fetch ( Seriously as stolen car moving may be of danger to public etc etc)

As we have found out before, car stolen & parked up somewhere is a pain in the backside, as it has to be reported to a police station etc etc.

 

About Tracker type systems ... I filled in an on-line Insurance form the other day to get a quote. It listed about 20 different types of tracking system! WOW!

Anyone who has one care to comment on what they think of it please? I need to get one for my next car but don't know what to choose (and with a particular kind there are a multitude of options to make it even MORE difficult!).

i was talking to a woman who works in bradford the other day who told me the company she works for had 5 cars broken into within 2 weeks. The last time she and her colegues saw the scum nicking the stereo through their office window and the scum turned round and laughed at them while they carried on nicking. The door was too far away (it was a mill) so the staff phoned the police who are literally round the corner to be told they had no-one free to deal. The works manager then phoned the sergent and complained that nothing was being done and said this would go further if they didn't respond. Well half an hour later a plod came round (theives now long gone), he looked round the car with glass and dash damage then asked the owner to come forward. The young lad came forward to be given a ticket for dodgy number plates (letters too thick).
Seems to be even with the plod never complain, just take what your given :-(

the idea for keys on elastic is good!
i do this with my mittens,both attached to a string that runs thru' my sleeves!

god,that takes me back to my youth!My duffle coat with built in mittens,thought i was the bees knees,those were the days.....

......standing warm and toasty knowing i couldnt lose my mittens however drunk I got!
