Question Fitting of K&n induction!?!?!?

Mornig fella's - Just got my K&n induction kit this morning, gonna fit it on sat. Are they easy enough to fit?? On previous cars it was just a matter of ripping off the standard cak and bolting the induction kit on!! I've heard the MAF sensors start playing up once they have been disturbed, but hey you cant make an omelette withouty breaking a few eggs!! Just wondering if anyone has fitted these DIY style!?!?!? Cheers!

depends which one you bought,i've got the typhoon and that took about an hour, easy job but you have to remove the wing liner.if it's just a filter it's a 5 min job.

Fitted one to my old RB5 a couple of years ago, had it on for 1 day and teen it off again as I thought it sounded like a dv all the time.
MAF packed in and had to by a replacement.

Real easy to fit thou

Fitting instructions:

1. Buy Induction kit
2. Realise you don't need it until you start hitting 350BHP
3. Realise that it may bugger your MAF
4. Realise that unless you do some additional ducting mods you will be sucking in warm air
5. Take it back to the shop
6. Buy a panel filter

A sheild to protect it from the engine heat and a feed (possibly from the wing).
If you can do that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

cheers mate! - I've just had a look, just what I need me thinks! Silly question, but obviously one end does right in front of the filter, but where's the best place to get the cold air - I'm thinking bumper?? Not sure how to get a feed from the wing?!?!?

Cool

you need to run it from the front of the car, best place is where the driving light cover is,
run it behind the wing lining and bring it out where the hole is where the old air feed was!!hope that helps, good luck

Ah, I've heard about you before - Are you the guy who doesn't believe in modding then?? I was just looking at a few threads and noticed how much stick you were getting on your backbox upgrade!!

I generally just sit in the corner keeping quiet

I struggle to understand why people buy a car which isn't what they want - then they spend ££££££££££'s trying to change it into what they want ........... my stance is, amazingly, buy the car you want in the FIRST place!!

You will generally be ok with a K&N kit. The horror stories you hear about with induction kits & MAF sensors are usually caused by using an induction kit that is too heavily oiled. The K&N kit is, to my experience, not one of these, although it might give you added security to check with a specialist that you have the more robust type of MAF sensor fitted.

It is true that an open induction kit will most likely loose you some horse power because it is sucking warmer engine bay air than the cooler, denser air through a closed airbox assembly, but it does, at least to me, feel as though they give a more instant throttle response - I've fitted one to both my previous & current classic scoobs with no trouble to date.

They are easy to fit, so see how you go...

I've modded every car I've had (turbo cars only) if the power is already there, why not unleash it with a few tweaks here n there!?!? I also understand where your coming from too, it's nice to see good clean examples that look like they have just rolled off the production line - each to there own really, I just like throwing good money after bad at cars, it's what I'm good at - I don't know any better!!!!!
