Silver, did it at the start of the year, it was very good, but as far as I know (thanks to MIRA) it was stopped.

I have heard rumours that it may still be possible to do it, but the costs are a lot more. I'd give Don a call and check out if it is still available.

Could somebody tell me where to get hold of him, as I'd also love to do a similar course in the new year

OK guys (& gals) the contact is unavailable until the 8th Jan. Happy to wait but anyone else have feedback. Need to learn mid-engine rear wheel drive (preferably on a wet circuit to preserve new 18 inch tyres)

Thanks in advance

Here is a recent posting on a day out with Don - dunno if it was the WtB course, but may address some of your concerns.
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/Forum23/HTML/000205.html

In case that URL posting screwed up try this:
http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/Forum23/HTML/000205.html

I asked Don about tyre and brake wear and this is all he had to say:

Creative Car Control - a progressive approach to developing your skill in handling your car on or near the limit.
We have designed a range of specialist limit handling courses that satisfy the increased demand for mastering car control and understanding the qualities necessary for successful track driving. The chosen course provides different benefits depending upon the specific requirements of the student. This development provides follow up to our "Wetter the Better" courses which we ran at MIRA over the past three years. (See below).

The Venues
Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire has recently benefited from significant investment. The major corners have been resurfaced and a new and challenging refinement to the short circuit has markedly improved the venue. Specifically, tyre wear has been reduced considerably for users of the main circuits. Bruntingthorpe provides unparalleled areas of open space and run-off. The main straight is long enough to offer most vehicles access to maximum speed and it is wide enough to enable limit handling manoeuvres to be perfected in safety. Bruntingthorpe is the first choice for students wanting to learn the basics of car control in isolation from other traffic and the confinement of the road or racetrack. It's the place to let your hair down and explore the limit of what is possible.

Millbrook proving ground in Bedfordshire has rather less open space, but provides a range of progressively challenging closed road environments for further testing and honing of your high speed handling skills. In particular the alpine hill circuit is a magnificent manifestation of a road that contains almost every conceivable type of medium speed corner to challenge your vehicle and your self control. The high speed bowl is capable of accommodating the maximum speeds of most vehicles. Millbrook is the chosen venue for developing an awareness of car control in relation to restricted environments such as road and track and it is the place to explore the qualities and the limitations of your car. You will appreciate Millbrook rather more if you already have the basics sorted out and you aspire to develop your skills to the highest level.

A recent quote concerning venues

" -remember it's not where people learn but what, and how well, and the impact that the learning has on the rest of their life beyond that point." (- JE Maxwell)
Our reputation for teaching limit handling skills is venue independent.

Repeat clients demonstrate an excellent level of knowledge and skill as a direct consequence of implementing strategies developed on earlier courses.

Here are some examples of what you will learn and how you will benefit from your training experience
Recognising the causes and feeling of understeer and oversteer

Understanding the influence of throttle control on vehicle stability

An understanding of basic tyre characteristics

Understanding how managing your internal state helps car control

You will become more confident and comfortable knowing where the limit of cornering performance is

You will be able to decide if you want to push the limit knowing what the consequences are and how to deal with them

Costings Bookings
Our "Creative Car Control Course" is £395 including expert one-to-one coaching and VAT.

We are currently booking weekends and weekdays in line with demand and it is our intention to work most weekends throughout the year.

Insurance
It is possible to purchase insurance on the day.
