Question 1998 classic ecu upgrade!?!?!?

Hi Everyone, new to the forum thing! I've just sold my 3 door cosworth and got myself a very clean 1998 classic. I'm looking in to getting it re mapped, but been told I need a replacement ecu as 1998 models are differant to others?? Not sure if I'm being given the run around or not, so I thought I'd put the question to the pro's!!! If I do need to get a replacement ecu what sort of costs am I looking at?? Many thanks, Si

You have two options.

1. You can get a chip soldered into your current ECU with a new map on it or that will enable it to be remapped. A few places do it, think ScoobyClinic and Power Engineering do

2. Get a replacement, mappable, ECU. APEXI Power FC seems to be the popular choice.

I have an MY98 myself mate and yes its true

The standard ECU in a MY98 cars cannot be remapped, I have looked into replacements and there are a few out there, basically you would be looking at just under £1k for an Apexi Power FC, Commander and Remap.

Hope this helps a little and welcome dude

£750 should cover it......less if you can pick up a used PFC.

Just one more thing, I've got a full stainless, dump valve, and just ordered my induction kit today. What bhp would I be looking at when its had the ecu sorted??

Well I've got a '98 car with a LINK ecu, remapped by the legendary Bob Rawle, full stainless, 3-port boost solenoid, HKS recirc dumpvalve and an STi intercooler, and it's making around 300bhp.

was thinking of getting scooby clinic to sort it for me - are they any good? Like I say, I'm a new scooby owner so my knowledge is pretty poor to say the least!
