P1 STOLEN FROM HEREFORD 6TH April
P1 STOLEN FROM HEREFORD 6TH April
W708 RPG
18" OZ Prodrive wheel
1 Rear Mudflap missing
My mates had his P1 stolen from his driveway in Hereford.
The car was up for sale so he reckons a so called potential buyer got his postcode and took it a day early. They found the tracker on the estate road.
Not looking good
The owner has both sets of Keys, they never entered his house, car was taken whilst he was asleep and NO car alarm went off
He had finnished cleaning it 11:00pm and he woke up at 3:30am to find it gone. Later he found out a friend from up the road (1/2mile away) heard at 2am it blat away friend assumed it was him up early and in a hurry.
Tracker unit was found by Police damaged on the roadside not that far from his house.

The most common location these things get fitted must be one of the worst kept secrets in the trade.... I know where mine's fitted - same place as everyone else's I know with one. Sucks really, but they won't move it, I know, I asked!

It was a tracking Device, not certain if it was a "Tracker" or "Trackstar" hence the small t in tracker.
1) tracker are good if you have 2 tracking systems they will look till they find one
2) Worst kept secret
3) Technology, Technology easy for theives in the know once found FUBAR
4) GPS big aerial easy find
5) GSM mall aerial easy to block
6) Money better spent on Mechanical things like Dislock and Dipol
7) Then invest rest of money in GAP insurance
IMHO

I never give my postcode when selling a car, always meet the buyer somewhere nearby to view then take them home to view paperwork if (a) they look OK (b) are a serious buyer.

Don't forget tracker won't work if they stole your keys. sounds like whoever did it had easy house security and left the keys in an obvious place, by far the most common type of theft now.
Mine has a tacker, i know where it is but i can't see anything on the car that would give away the fact, no stickers or anything.

fivetide, it aint the fact you have no stickers or anything that matters. The unfortunate point is there are only certain places these devices can be installed. So they know where to look anyway to see if you have one. And then there are certain gadgets that can find em anyway, if i understand correctly. So yeah, mechanical devices seem a better way to deter or at least hold em back a while.
The Disklok can only be removed with power tools, and even then still takes time to do with the associated noise you will get from those power tools.
And then as mentioned above, get the Dipol gear lock done too. Another good deterrent.

As I've said before, if the car's parked on a drive, get a retractable security post. The more difficult it is for these scum the more likely they'll pick on someone else.
Sorry to hear about the theft of the P1.

Hmmm interesting. I bought an AutoLok after recommendations on here to help boost the standard security. I don't keep the AutoLok key and the car key together either. Keep your keys safe people!

With point 2, presumably worst kept secret - as in the fitting location?
I've an MY05 STI, now I think I know where my tracker is fitted, but not quite sure.
Plus I don't know what it looks like anyway.
But could you PM me details.
If you PM me, then I'll send you my work email address if you prefer.
THanks,
Shaun

I have to have a tracking device fitted for insurance. I remember David at API telling me it was a waste of money - if your car gets nicked they tear it apart looking for the tracker - either way if and when you get it back it's a mess! I have also moved my car a couple of times without keys (long story) - never got a call from my tracking company.
