Question UP PIPE OR FRONT PIPE

I am looking to take one of the cats off of my MY05 sti ppp, which would be the best one to change?

The 1 on the down pipe or the 1 on the front pipe?

Who is best to get the replacement pipe from?

thanks

Just found out that my sti has only got a sports cat on the down pipe as it is fitted with the ppp which is standard for a car with the ppp I believe.

In that case you wont gain much by replacing the Prodrive sports cat with a decat downpipe. Mike from Prodrive has posted on the subject and from memory there's about 2bhp in it ?

If the reason for removing it was more power then an Ecutek Remap will give that with what already have - Might be worth adding a K&N or Green replacement Panel filter

Thanks
What benefit would there be in replacing the back box or from the down pipe back, would it just result in the car being louder

Don’t want to go down the road of a remap as I still have 1½ years of warranty.

Am I right in believing that you are better just to change the panel filter as you don’t get any benefit from putting on a induction kit unless you are up over 350bhp?

What would be the difference in changing the exhaust from the sports cat on the down pipe back?

Bagpipes, a K&N Sports Panel Filter is good, the Induction ones can be a lot of trouble.

Good Luck.

Cool

i was talking to kev down at scoobyclinic,he says that u can put aftermarket performace parts on,ie exhausts etc but a ppp ecu wont recognise the bits u put on!!may sound better and get a tiny bit more power but thats it!!

Including your thread title you mention UP-PIPE, DOWN-PIPE and FRONT-PIPE so havent a clue which pipe you want to change

Don't know about your model year, but on my '02 WRX there was an UP-PIPE cat which was BEFORE the turbo, then a DOWN-PIPE cat which was after the Turbo and finally a cat in the centre section (not to be confused with the resonator section) and I've removed all 3!

It now starts boosting around 1500rpm and is on FULL boost between 2000-2500 rpm which makes it far more driveable

If not mapped, possibly, otherwise OK.

Thanks lads,

Mr po,

I confused myself with that one, I meant the front cat (which I don’t have as I have ppp) and the down pipe (which is fitted with the ppp sports cat) I think.
