From the title of the post.It sounded like it might be an "Entertaining " video of a crash ( "You've been framed" type of thing). It was more like a clip from a"Quenten Tarantino" movie....
At least put a warning with the post. Someone must have died.

So it was to stop people being offended? Well if there are any people on here of such a nervous disposition that this sort of thing gives them nightmares might I suggest you go home, lock all the doors and windows and never watch the television or read a newspaper again.

If you use a peer to peer programme like kazaa and type subaru, you will be able to see it.

I wasn't aware that scoobynet was unviewable to children - think about it - it might be OK for you but NOT for a five year old who is interested in his dad's car

Question

Joey - Did you see the movie? If so can you explain if you thought it was entertaining or informative? I can't really see what some people get from watching potential injury, death and misfortune. Please do explain...

Question

It was more to do with an issue of censorship, just seems that this website is being massively censored at the moment.

Secondly why would I want to see it? Guess it's a morbid curiosity really, same reason as to why people watch the Police, Camera, Action Videos/TV programs and the same reason why people watch the news. So when the video footage of the World Trade Center was on the news did you watch it?

can't see the viper movie but was lucky enough to get behind the wheel of one the other week. pretty fun car but so easy to have the back skipping out even in the dry at nothing like full tilt. Could be a bit pant-wettingly mad in the rain!

It was hard to miss - but I certainly didn't complain when they stopped showing it. I would think that as you don't own/maintain or pay for this board, that you don't really get to call what gets censored or not. After all - Simon doesn't come round your house and watch hardcore **** videos on your TV? (unless you agree to it of course )

It is often a difficult call deciding what will offend and what will not. I'm glad I'm not a moderator who has to make these kinds of decisions. Having said that, I have a pretty strong stomach and can normally cope with pretty gory stuff. Not everybody has a stomach for (what I can only imagine) was being linked to, so I suspect any deletion would be to protect those who haven't got a strong stomach or those who let their kids etc surf Scoobynet.

Maybe we should have a restricted forum for anything that might cause offence to be put in. I assume a separate username/password would be required. I further suspect this kind of forum is very low on Webbies list of priotirties right now.

How about a post indicating the type of content and inviting people to ask for the URL to be sent to them?

This is all double standards. It can be compared with what people might take as offence in writing on this bbs, I really cannot see any difference. If you do not like a particular post, you can leave it, surely it's the same as watching a video. One person cannot act as a majority, but if it was a legal issue, I could understand.

Moderators, this is very single minded.

I don't know how other people think, but threads like this REALLY DO irritate me!!!!

Unless you have the persona of Hannibal Lecter or the eyesight of Stevie Wonder, anybody who saw the video clip would understand why is was removed.

I am getting fed-up seeing time and time again the scape goat of "Censorship". This has absolutley nothing to do with it. If you REALLY want to see this kind of material, there is plenty of sites available for you to use. This is a Subaru Website for Subaru Car Enthusiasts. People use this site for that particular reason. If a person wished to look at a Scooby they wouldn't visit a BMW garage would they!!!

Everybody has there own opinions on what is acceptable, which we ALL have to respect, but at the end of the day the link was made with no warning what so ever and with minors having access to this site makes it totally unacceptable.

Regards,
Shaun.

Erm ... could it be that the thread got deleted accidently ? (a known bug at the mo, see Bugs forum)

Normally a moderator will inform you when they delete something, so before we do another massive "freedom of speech" hoopla, we may want to be sure it really got deleted ...

Edit: damn, there goes my theory LOL

If it was a mockup accident in the style of 'the guy blowing up the dingy when his son jumps on it and pop goes his head', that's cool. If it's the real thing and someone bought the big one that's just plain sick. Next thing I bet you'll be slowing down to view accidents (damn that really pi55es me off, get on with your lives and don't be so frigging nosey).

Here endth the rant

Shaun, I must say I totally disagree. I'm sure people appreciate what you are trying to say, but you're digging yourself a hole. There have been threads on here that have more swearing, whether it be in text form or not that people take offence to. If sites are to be moderated then it cannot be for type of material.

Cool

OK one final post on the matter.

This is a performance car website, I think we can all agree that the Subaru Impreza Turbo is a performance car right?

So you can post anything about performance cars on this website as long as :

1)There are no posts about them crashing
2)No posts about them ever going faster than 70 MPH
3)No posts about ever racing anybody on the road (come on we have all done it at some stage or other)

Joey - do you think if it had simply barrel rolled 15 times down the road without the flying spectators anyone would have objected. From what i saw there would be a large number of spectators seriously injured or possibly killed in the crash. As you have already stated, you have a morbid fascination for watching other people die. Some people might think that is a bit weird. You are trying to make a grey area black and white. This does nothing but nonsense your arguments

I somehow find it hard that a video clip showing "Bodies flying everywhere" is conjucive to this site. And how anybody can defend against the deletion of that thread is totally beyond me.

I would suggest that people complaining about the thread being deleted NEVER even saw the footage, because if they did they would of respected the reason why it was removed.

Regards,
Shaun.

JoeyDeacon,

I assume you will agree the line has to drawn somewhere. Recently, a post showing the (very gory) aftermath of a Ferrari crashing at very high speed was posted here on Scoobynet. Even the deletion of that sparked the usual freedom of posting arguments. I think all right minded people would not want that kind of thing posted on Scoobynet - even if it served as a warning to people who drive performance cars at high speeds (Scooby owners?).

If people want to see this kind of stuff, they will go to sites that cater for that. If people want to source Scooby related stuff they will come here. Next, people will want to post hard core **** here. There are plenty of sites that cater for that, so if you want that stuff you'll go to www.sleazypornsite.com and not Scoobynet.

Bear in mind also that this site is sponsored by companies through the banner ads. Do these companies want to be associated with a site that routinely shows hard core content - whether it be car crashes or sex?

Jerome, if it was hardcore, Shaun would first right-click, "add to favorites" and then delete the thread

Sorry

I absolutely hate these type of movies BTW ... (the non-**** ones I mean). I think we are now in an era where a mum will see one of their children crash on the internet before the police got to her doorstep to tell what happened ... That said, I would never click on a link where the thread title would be scooby crash, unless it had a smiley or a disclaimer in it or something.

I'm with Shaun on this one. The site owner and the moderators have the absolute right to "censor" anything they want in order to keep the site the kind of site they want to run. Whether that's because they're afraid of kids seeing it, they don't want to offend sponsors, they're worried about legal risks, or they're simply personally offended by particular threads or photos/MPEG's - doesn't matter. It's their site. They don't have to be consistent. Your human rights are not at risk.

If you don't like it then you should **** off to usenet and subscribe to alt.sicko.carcrash (or start it up if it doesn't exist). All human life is there.

[pause for breath...]

As for the risk of kids seeing something unpleasant on here my personal view is that if parents are going to let small kids surf the net they ought to be with them at all times to make sure that they don't come into contact with stuff that's harmful or disturbing. But what's important is not my view, it's the opinion of the site owner: if they're worried about that and they decide to delete stuff because of it, I respect their decision. It's part of giving a site its own special character. Of course, if they went too far and cut everything so that the site became boring, then I guess I would simply drift away because the character of the site didn't suit me any more.

/rant over ...

My main Concern was the way the Post was written. It sounded so much like "you will love this". Also the name of the Company that produced it.......

I put my hand up and say I was one of maybe many who notified the Moderator. I never thought I would do this. But it was presented as if it was entertainment.Even TV stations tried not to show too much of people jumping out of the twin towers.

Some will say "the video was a bit strong". I say "the way it was posted" was the main concern.

Hi All

Joey Deacon / mark.coleman

As you can probably see from the replies in this post, you are very much in the minority of people that want this kind of thing on scoobynet.

I have to agree with Shaun in finding it tiring having to discuss all the censorship issues after having to act on threads like the one in question.

WE DO NOT MAKE THESE DECISIONS FOR FUN!

I deleted this thread personally. The reason for this was that I came out of a meeting to find an inbox full of complaints. So I looked at the thread and deleted it without hesitation once I saw what it was.

There was no warning, and the tone of the thread was "hey look at this it's really cool".

It is always a very serious decision before a thread is deleted, and it is NEVER done through personal reasons, or whims. It is done based on the ideals of this community and what the majority want.

I hope this can be put to bed now.

Regards
