What - subaru is thinking - "oooh, the Evo is a bit tough for us.. lets lower our sights and aim for Honda instead"
I personally think its aweful - they've obviously done a Maserati and asked an american focus group about car design - always a bad move. I was hoping all those photoshopped hatchback things were a horrible lie.

'The top-spec STi is to feature a reworked version of the current 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four. This offers 300bhp and 431Nm of torque. A new 2.5-litre motor is also under development, although it's likely to debut in the US before heading to the UK.'

The 2ltr on the other hand.... just look at the JDM cars, lots of torque and all pushing over 300bhp out of the box the other reason the 2.5 replaced the 2ltr in the uk was emissions regs, if Subaru have solved this problem and still are able to push out 300bhp then good on em it gets around that dodgy area that mitsubishi have been cheating on for several years of importing grey imports and flogging them off as MR/FQ variations hence the reason they get around emissions

I'm not passing judgement on any of these spy shots or photoshopped images until Subaru actually unveil the real thing. All we've seen for the last 6 months or so are photos of cars covered in styrofoam or whatever it is, that may not even be the Impreza for all we know, and photoshopped images of what can only be described as an Astra hatch with bits of STi8 stuck to the f**king thing.
Personally I don't like the idea of an Impreza hatchback at all, though I do think that if the replacement to the current Impreza is a hatch, they should at least drop the Impreza name and think of a way to re-brand it.

340BHP seems to be the limit for the 2.5. Anymore power after that and it literally falls apart.
So buy using a reworked version of the 2 litre does in no way mean that Subaru is taking a step backwards. If anything they are taking a step forwards

The biggest market in the UK car industry is meant to be the hatchback market, and this is the reason Subaru are attempting to get a foothold in this market place. Plus they want a smaller car for rallying I suspect. An article I read somewhere stated they would still continue to make the Saloon version as well as the hatchback.
Nobody is going to know anything for definate until the car is unveiled and they go on sale anyway.
