Default BOV ADVICE REQ'D BY NEWBIE

Can anyone recommend the best BOV for my 02 WRX.

I don't want really loud in your face type (SWOOSH) but more the sound like it's sucking in (very hard to explain sorry - i know they blow out and not pull air in just trying to explain it :-) )

Which is best atmospheric or recirculating?

Cheers

You already have a recirculatiing dump valve. It's sitting on the front right of the intercooler (looking into the engine bay from the front). The reason you can't hear it is because it recirculates the (metered !) air back into the system. BTW - You can hear it a bit with a decat I've found

Atmospheric, as it says on the tin, dump the air out to the atmosphere which is why you can here them.

Personally I'd keep the standard recirculating one - it works just fine. Use the search function to look for the many threads on the subject.

This is a particularly good thread - esp post #19

Not a WRC sound, just turbo stall.

From his description I thought he maybe meant turbo stall.

Why on earth would he want turbo stall, surely you could remove the BOV completely if you wanted turbo stall, that would cause a ch-ch-ch tho I spose, and may affect the turbo lifetime - there again it may not.

Possibly he means an induction sound made by a cone filter, and not a dump valve sound at all ??

My fave BOV ever answer is something like ...

Why don't you just wind your window down and shout "I'm a ****" on every gearchange...

After about 5 mins I'm reading I've decided to keep it completely standard, I was just considering a BOV if existing owners recommended them in general or a specific make

I was merely going by his description and thought turbo stall is what he meant.

Do you mean this noise?

Nissan 200SX - Google Video

Or this one?

Nissan Silvia S13 CA18DET Aftermarket Blow-off Valve (BOV) - Google Video

Or an induction type sound?
