other cars flash as you go past.

I don't suppose everyone who's getting flashed at has, err, non-standard exhausts do they? I've got my Switzerland-friendly (i.e. light farty-noise) BB on at the moment rather than the Scoobysport & there seem to be less flashers around!
speedking - I have 'access' to one of those 2ltr V6 turbo-jobbie Alfa GTVs, so probably know it pretty well, and... I have no idea how to flash with it Good-old Iti electrics, eh?

Plantie - well, yup, didn't want to go into all that "The scoobysport that I used to have & have now swapped for a prodrive BB that I haven't put on yet but may have the same effect but I don't know" is all a little long-winded!
Anyway, a noisy thing. Rather than a quite farty-thing. Which people don't notice. So there
[edited 'cos I got all out of synch]

Lately I've noticed that when I overtake other cars they flash me once I'm past. why is this??
I don't overtake dangerously and never experienced it in other cars.
And no I haven't left my rear fog lights on...
anyone else experience this?

It's probably because they never noticed you in the first place!
This happens to me, especially on A and B roads where I'm pushing it. Typical example is ...
Twisty road, come up behind people carrier, road moves to straight, horse past them and get flashed.

Yep had this the other night on the way home. I think it's their perception that we are driving too fast. In my case, I overtook at speed but other lane was clear so didn't see any other reason for a flash.

hmm, could be that they are saying "hello"? I've had that from a few people and turns out they like scoobs, or other car is scoob and they are in their other car.

Always happens to me, never thought that it could be another scoob drive in say wifey motor, I usually find it's french car driver, or Beema. Makes me laugh, by the time they have flashed, you miles away any way, but if it makes them happy. It think some people think it will make you slow down, er no, but I never exceed the speed limit tho.

The one car that I think I've never been flashed by is an Alfa. Presumably they are in a 'calm mood' at the time which is why they aren't driving like a nutter as well.

Yeah I get flashed as well. It could be they are telling you that you have cleared their car and can pull back into the lefthand lane. Lorries seem to do this a lot. More likely they think you are driving too fast.
Just realised that I have never been overtaken on a single carriage way ever. Quite odd really.

What's scary is the amount of time and distance you have usually put in before they flash at you. Often I've covered perhaps as much as 100 yards beyond them before they flash at you. If that's their ability to read the road in front of them they should be banned from driving
I think becuase they are not aware of their surroundings, you flying past them ('cos lets face it, you go past as fast as you can and get back on the left side of the road as soon as possible) startles them. Because of that, it causes the reaction that you are driving like an idiot and hence, they flash you.

Oh.
I thought it was the way I drive.
I feel odd if I don't get flashed at least once a week.
Best so far, was old duffer in some shed at road works traffic lights of about 3 car lengths on a dead straight road. He sat there like a plank, able to see a good mile down the road nothing coming. When the lights changed he moved about 2 feet and stalled it, so I drove around him. Lights flashing arm waving. He'd have done better to just restart the bleedin car. Clown.

Being a very placid and patient person, this unnecessary flashing anger’s me so much that I usually stand on the brakes and bring them to a stand still, it makes them think twice.

I get flasheda lot too and I'm also sure that they think I am going to fast coz they just can't understand what isn't safe in their 'bucket' IS safe in a Scoob and other fast cars.
Doesn't just happen to me in the Scoob either and think exhaust noise may have a bearing on it as my other two cars are even louder.
Anyway if it makes them feel better........... So long as they don't go and tell a load of rubbish to Mr Plod........
Cheers

Truck and van drivers use it a lot on motorways.
With an artic, just using your mirrors can give you a false sense of how far you have cleared the other vehicle by.
Usually if an artic driver has passed another artic, the following one will flash to say, "You've cleared me now and left enough gap to pull in safely".
Some car drivers do this too, either they are lorry drivers and it's a habit or they somehow think it's cool, or maybe they are just being helpful.

Glad it's not just me! I seem to get flashed a fair bit too, and I don't drive any different than I did in my A4 Avant, no-one bothered then.
I had a couple of guys in a builders van moon me as I passed the other day on the A14, still gives me nightmares, hairy ar5ed barstewards..
Also had a couple of lads in a Calibra Turbo take photos of me, gave me a heart attack when I saw the flashes in my mirror. Not that I was speeding.
